I saw many lifestyle videos from my favorite social media influences in LA and London. I thought it would be a cool idea to show people the beauty of the East Coast, specifically the city we all know and love, New York. I wanted to create a video showing inner city females as the face of this beautiful city and have the viewer follow us on a normal Saturday. Coincidentally, everyone involved in the video is from a different borough, I’m from Brooklyn, William, the videographer, is from Harlem, Kenia, one of the models, is from Queens, and Jennifer, the other model, is from the Bronx. We all met in high school, The High School of Fashion Industries, in Manhattan, which is the heart of New York for us!
In this video we take you to two main places where we often hang out, which are Soho and Dumbo! Soho is great for shopping! There’s a lot of clothing stores and boutiques next to each other which makes shopping easier. We love to use the ShopDrop Sample Sale app to tell us when there are nearby sales!! Living in New York is very expensive so we love deals and sales, especially when it comes to clothing!! They also have a great $2 pizza place called “Champion Pizza” that we adore! Later on in the day we went to Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo. It’s actually one of my favorite spots in NYC and in the summer they host a lot of events! On the off season, which is now, it’s just a great place to hangout at. From the park you can see the Brooklyn bridge, the Manhattan bridge, and the beautiful Manhattan skyline that features the Freedom Tower. I have so many memories there, just sitting by the rocks and talking to my friends about life and our dreams. New York City is such a phenomenal place and I loved showing it to people from our point of view!
Naturally, we don’t all have time to go to every sample sale in the game, forcing us to prioritize our favorites. As a business student, I sometimes find myself weighing the pros and cons of each sale. But considering the fact that on average, Derek Lam’s pieces cost $1000, the choice was simple. I knew I had to seize the opportunity to get my hands on the American designer’s sensible and detailed collection.
When I walked into Clothing Line, the sample sale host, I realized that my experience might be a little thrifty—I was definitely going to have to hunt to find the best items, especially since I only managed to make it there on the final day. After tossing aside some super baggy sweaters (originally $1400!!) and making it past the more matronly pieces of the collection, I came across this gem— (Score!!)
Lam upgraded the classic statement white blazer with a splatter paint detailing, making it easy to pair with both white and black trousers. I quickly found a pair of wide leg black suit pants to match, creating the perfect outfit to stand out at work or any event. The total cost of the outfit originally came out to almost $3,000 ($2000 for the jacket alone) but I got it for almost 70% off! Thank goodness for ShopDrop for always being there for me when I need to find a good sample sample.
If you’re looking for a timeless yet modern additions to your closet, definitely add Derek Lam to your list of Sample Sales to check out next season. You’ll be sure to find the right combination of classy yet unconventional pieces!
Please note: due to the snowstorm, the SJP sample sale has been postponed until March 29th.
I may have been too young to even watch- shhh don’t tell my mother, but growing up all I ever wanted to be was Carrie Bradshaw. And who didn’t? Her effortlessly chic, girly, elegant but eccentric style completely changed the game of fashion. From her famous tutu to her newsworthy Dior Newsprint dress, through her role as Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker defined the true meaning of fashion- originality!
As a fashion icon, Sarah Jessica Parker is full of endless surprises. The latest: a shoe line. But not just any shoe line. Launched in February of 2014, by Sarah Jessica Parker and George Malkemus III, these new kicks were designed to redefine color as neutrals, inspiring women all over to add a little color, spark and skip to their steps.
Every shoe in SJP’s collection is handcrafted in Italy by the genius hands of a third generation Tuscan shoemaker for maximum luxury and quality.
Reimagined after some of the most classic Christian Louboutin silhouettes, SJP exemplifies the beloved style with an exciting burst of color and unexpected adornments. As another source of inspiration, Sarah Jessica Parker looks to the late seventies for it “was a great time for women’s shoes.”
Sarah Jessica Parker manages to pull inspiration from the finest sources while still staying true to herself and her style. To make these shoes truly her own each shoe features a strip of grosgrain, a type of fabric that is characterized by its ribbed appearance. In some shoes, it is used in hiding a seam up the back and in others, placed in an unexpected spot. Originally used in one color only- the palest and prettiest shade of salmon pink, and now in a few other shades, this really sets the SJP collection apart from the rest.
In Sarah Jessica Parkers own words this “collection is comprised of classic, timeless silhouettes meant to fit into a woman’s life for many years to come”.
Can’t wait to see what SJP has come up with this time! See you all there!

Major trend alert: customization and personalization is ALL the rage in fashion right now. Although it’s recently become more popular, this trend has actually been a favorite of ours for almost a full year!! We clearly can’t get enough of it…in fact it has been one of the major influences of the millennial buying habits in 2016 and is expected to last through 2017 and beyond. Woo-hoo! This makes us very happy 🙂
Want to know what is so special about this trend? Customization allows us to be in control and to be exclusively expressive. More and more fashion brands are incorporating ways to personalize or customize their products in a way to individually cater to their loyal customers, just like us! When something is personalized, or customized, it is made for YOU, and only you. It makes you feel special, feel unique, and it gives you an outlet to (literally) express yourself through your style. This is especially applicable when it comes to millennials, who are the main consumers of these customized pieces. As stated by entepeneur.com, “Millennials want to know a company is paying attention to their specific needs.” (https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/234891) Customization and personalization do just this, they cater to the customer’s specific needs, and this is wonderful for both the customer and the company. It creates a stronger connection and a deeper relationship between the two entities.
Fashion and style already give us a way to express ourselves, but personalization and customization take it to the next level of expression. The individualized aspect of customized pieces makes us, as the customers, feel different from everyone else in the best way, allowing us to truly stand out, and be ourselves – most times, this can be very refreshing, which is why customization is so trendy and in right now. This trend extends beyond the fashion industry, even Coca-Cola cans have added an element of customization by selling cans with specific names instead of the brand name, Coke.
We love to add our personal touch to the things we wear. We love to feel unique, different, and special. Customized pieces are able to make us feel all of these things with just one look. It is clear from this steadfast trend that customization is an effective tactic to enhance sales while making the consumer feel they are getting something special and unique. Customization gives you an outlet to express yourself and allows us to feel different and bold. As stated on fashionista.com, “In an era when brand loyalty is low and demands are high, it makes sense that customization has taken off. Shoppers can design their own Nike sneakers, Brooks Brothers suits, Burberry trench coats and Longchamp bags.” Customization gives the “finicky shopper” a sense of control and a freedom of expression.
Customization is such a secure trend in fashion right now that we are certain it is here to stay. Some many brands are jumping on board with customization and in our opinions, this will create nothing but success for these brands. Customization sets us, as consumers, apart from all of the other consumers out there because it allows us to purchase items can are specifically tailored to our interests and our individual features, even personalities. Customization allows us to be expressive while remaining loyal to our favorite brands! When we customize something, we give it our personal touch, which allows us to be inventive while tailoring items to our wants and needs, and our individual styles. It’s all about control and that is why we are absolutely certain that the customization trend in fashion is here to stay!
Check out the different ways we have customized some of the items in our wardrobes on the blog.
I met Samantha at a local dinner a few months ago. When I noticed her shift dress and oversized fashionable jacket, I knew I was sitting next to a fashion wizard. So I wasn’t at all surprised to learn that she runs one of the most successful Vintage shops in New York, The Vintage Twin. Samantha agreed to speak with me and tell me about her business but wouldn’t let me publish until I saw the store for myself.
What could I say! Since I visited the pop-up shop last week, I’ve been back twice and am hooked. So for anyone out there who likes the hunt for unique and stylish creations, I dare you to go and not get addicted.
E: Where did you first develop a passion for vintage items?
S: I first fell in love with vintage while I was a college student at the University of Michigan. That’s where I met people from many different places. With them, shopping for vintage was an activity. When I came back to NY, all I wore was vintage. Morgan, my twin, was an event photographer, and I would tag along with her to events. At every single gathering, people would ask me where I got my clothing. That’s when it became obvious to me that people were attracted to a different kind of look—something no one else could get their hands on. And that was back in 2009! Way before vintage shopping was more mainstream.
E: Tell me about you transformed vintage shopping from a hobby into a business?
S: The first attempt at a business was a t-shirt sale I ran out of my mom’s basement. After it sold out in one day, I went back to the city to buy more. When I returned to school in Ann Arbor after vacation, I continued selling out of my dorm living room. At some point, I stopped wanting people to shop out of my closet, so a few friends and I rented a space in Ann Arbor and planted our roots. From there we continued to develop by building a website, which took 2 years longer than we had anticipated. It was a complex process to convert sizing from different decades to modern standards. The process entailed the development of a proprietary calculator and pricing algorithm.
Some time after I graduated, we moved our operations to New York. And that is how the pop up shops we’re born.
E: What makes the pop-up shop a unique kind of startup?
S: Our business, although in some senses a startup, grew completely organically. We didn’t have investors. We put in our savings and kept on reinvesting in the business. To this day, the business is unique. Alyssa, our only full-time employee, and I do most of the shopping. We handpick every single piece that customers see at the store. My sister runs our Instagram and Facebook pages.
E: How is The Vintage Twin different from other vintage stores or thrift shops?
S: Once a woman came up to the register with four items in her hand. She asked if the items she selected are cool or had she lost her touch? The thing about the Vintage Twin is that if an item made it to the store, it is cool. If it wouldn’t be cool it wouldn’t be here. When I am shopping and handpicking each item that is all I think about. THIS ITEM HAS TO BE IN OUR SHOP BECAUSE IT IS COOL. For most thrift shoppers, the relevance and appropriateness of the clothing is hard to gage. But in our store shoppers could trust that what they’re buying is on trend. Each one of our items is a reworked hunted treasure.
E: What are some of the most exciting projects moving forward? S: Well, we are the only place in NYC with a “Jeanius Bar” – where one of our Jeaniuses is trained to select the perfect pair of vintage jeans according to each customer’s body and preferences. As far as I know, there’s nowhere else in the world that offers that kind of service for vintage jeans. Thinking about the future, I realize that the landscape has changed for vintage clothing. Many people weren’t going to thrift stores before but are now. The Vintage Twin will continue to fill the gap for that shopper who will never have the time or patience to dig through stuff at thrift stores and wants the look without the effort. We will continue to offer a curated collection of vintage clothing that’s on trend.
The Austria based brand made a US sample sale debut this week, hosted by 260 Sample Sale at the 260 Fifth Ave, location. As many would expect from this brand hosiery reigned supreme amongst the shoppers I saw inside early this morning. I also walked into the sale hoping for a few pair of tights but my focus were on unique patterns and embellishments. Also for the month of March I am focused on Women’s Suiting, so anything great under a blazer would be sure to draw my attention.
Fishnets, Mat Opaque, Cotton Velvet, Satin Touch, Sheer 15; there was a style and finish for all tastes. Sizes ranged from XS-XL; and pricing at $15 and $45 were a steal for this brand.
Now let’s talk bodysuits. RTW at the sale we priced at a 70% off the retail price. I found a particular one I feel immensely in love with. I call it serious in the front, with a sexy kitten surprise in back. It had a string bottom body and was at the sale for $121.
Inventory ranged in sizes XS-Large in the items I checked. Most of the RTW bodysuits I saw were a string body. I saw Colorado, Viscose, and Buenos Aires Body styles to name a few that stood out.
Wolford is a brand know for luxury and at this sale you are receiving it at a great price that only comes around once! But let’s cross fingers that may not be the case. So check out the prices below.
Final let’s talk Kim K (I know everything always seems to go back to her). We have seen her numerous times in a Wolford bestseller; Fatal Dress. The dress was available boxed at the sample sale in Navy, Sun Yellow, Bottle Green, and Turquoise Blue. Priced at $63 at the sample sale you know one (or maybe 2) had to come home with me.
If you love Wolford I think this is a sale you should take a peek into (you have until Sunday). The styles available are classic and timeless. The staff from the brand were friendly, engaging, and very helpful. If you don’t know the brand, I say read the post here http://www.shopdrop.app/blog/basic-luxurious-necessities-wolford/ then go to the sale. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
I got word that restocking will occur daily, so if you haven’t visited yet, nothing was missed!
Preppy collars, classic stripes, and high spirits (literally… just check out my jumping skills) were all the rage at the very first Tory Sport sample sale this week. This inaugural event took place at Clothing Line, located in the Garment district in NYC! I walked into this sale with an agenda, as I sought to determine whether Tory Sport was made for fashion or for fitness. And it’s a legitimate question, how could it be that a sweater that looks like every day fashion, could wick off sweat and perform as a light, comfortable work out top?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the chic pigtail braids and the hot pink boxing gloves look. But here’s what I need to know: when my heart starts racing at its maximum speed, and the sweat starts trickling down my neck, am I going to be comfortable in this fabulous Tory gear? After jogging through the fitting rooms, doing jumping jacks with the staff, and standing on my head for a couple of minutes, I can honestly answer HELL YES!
Tory Sport clothes are fashionable AND comfortable! But guess what else they are… Expensive. So let’s talk prices, shall we?
This sample sale helped make these clothes affordable! We saved over $95 on the leggings outfit, and $255 on the dress outfit! Why would I spend full price if I can hold out til Clothing Line hosts a sample sale? If you know what’s good for you, get your hands on some Tory Sport merch. Not only can you kick ass…but your ass will look damn good doin it!
If Monday is as difficult for you as it is for the rest of us, fear not. There are many wonderful sample sales and shopping events taking place this week. There, you’ll be able to stock up on some low-cost designer items in advance of Spring, which just doesn’t want to come. There are five action items that would maximize anyone’s return on invested time. So below are a few, and I’m always interested in hearing more ideas… so ping me, follow me on Instagram @shopdropapp and shoot me your ideas. Yours always, Estee <3
Shop sample sales
Sample sales are the best-kept secret of gorgeous looking fashionistas. Most brands, yes, even Canali, DVF & Hermes hold sample sales in fashion capitals once or twice a year. The merchandise is sold at a whooping 70%-90% discount. Knowing where to find them sales is a key to looking chic without spending chic. There are a few things that can maximize your results though… and they require that you be prepared to shop wisely.
Do your research
Before you head to a sample sale, find out which brand or brands are being featured. See if you like any of the items. Find out if the sale sells stock or sample sizes (most sample sales now sell stock). I recommend having an app that lists all sample sales installed on your phone. Once or twice a week, check in and put interesting sales on your calendar.
Stay tuned for outliers
If there is something on sale at the end of the season, chances are, there will be more of a selection in non-standard sizes. My mother-in-law has a 10.5 size foot, and sample sales for shoes are her heaven. You could find the most exquisite and exclusive designs for ridiculous prices if your feet are either ‘too big’ or ‘too small’. If you want to see the maximum selection, go on the first day.
Know your budget
If you want to spend $5-$10 on an item, then look out for flea markets, blowout sales, and final markdowns. Oftentimes, the last day of a sample sale will be accompanied with additional mark-offs. If your goal is getting the Hermes scarf, then stand in that line, and get to the sale as early as you can.
Set your expectations
The tradeoff of buying luxury items at sample sales is losing the experience. No one will fuss over you at a sample sale bringing you every item you could dream of. Most probably, you will have to change in a public changing room, will have to be swift in your choices and stand in line to check out. If you ask us, it’s definitely worth the 70%-90% discount you’ll get in the long run. And if you set your expectations correctly, the experience will be fun!
As the sun finally begins to show its face and winter draws to an end, I can’t help but think about how it won’t be long until it rears its ugly head again. Memories of pale, chapped and sometimes hairy winter skin begin to plague my mind. The only thing really getting me through is knowing I will be able to wear tights again.
The perfect pair of tights can make any frigid day almost bearable, and have the power to complete any winter outfit.
But let’s not just talk winter tights, let’s talk basics. Not just basics, but those of the highest quality. Leggings, bodysuits, shape-wear and a favorite for women worldwide- lingerie. Now that winter is soon leaving us, all of our favorite winter essentials are over worn and dulled out. But, it’s never too early to restock! After all, isn’t that what sample sales are for and essentially all about.
As Wolford begins to shed it’s Winter skin and excite us with a brand new summer lineup, we get the opportunity to stock up for next year. Whether it be tights, leggings, bodysuits, shapewear or lingerie- Wolford has all of your basic, and not so basic needs covered.
This Austrian-born brand exemplifies comfort and quality where it matters most. Here’s your chance to get your hands on these luxury products for “not so luxury” prices; Wolford is hosting a sample sale this week at 260 sample sale! Get up to 70% off on tights, apparel, lingerie, accessories and bodysuits. Thank goodness for Wolford and thank goodness for sample sales.
I’ll see you there!
