This Sale Featuring “Off-White” Was Quite “Off-Putting”

Overheard at the 260 multi-brand sample sale “I’m not really feeling anything, can we please go somewhere else?” and “This is so disorganized I have a headache”. Although the promise of brands such as Off-White, Alexander Wang, and Re/Done at a discount of 60% was pretty alluring, the sale did not deliver on these claims. Overall this 260 sale was disappointing, disorganized, and was more expensive than it should have been. On the first day of the sale I could not find a single item from any of the brands mentioned above, excluding one item from the Adidas and Alexander Wang collaboration. In reality the sale featured mostly Adidas, by Parra and Carhart. Some of the items available were cute and worth buying, but it was frustrating that the brands that were used to draw customers in weren’t actually there.

There was about a 10 minute wait to get into the sale. Customers were allowed to buy only 3 units per style and no more than 25 items in total. All items were 60% off retail price. Because the price range of the brands and items was so broad some of the items were steals and others were crazy overpriced. The ambiance at the sale was a little off putting. Some people were frantically rushing around while others were standing around complaining. However, I will give some credit to the employees at the sale for being friendly amidst the chaos.

There were men’s and women’s clothing in equal (but kind of disappointing) amounts. There was a broad range of styles, items, and sizes. The men’s items were “organized” by size (there was a small section, a medium section, etc.), however,  because of this there were short sleeve shirts, hoodies, long sleeves, and jerseys all mixed together on the same racks. Also available for men were shorts, bathing suits, and jackets.

The women’s section was more varied than the men’s and included jeans, shorts, long sleeve and short sleeve shirts, tank tops, leggings, and bathing suits. The women’s section was small and difficult to navigate. There really seemed to be no rhyme or reason to how everything was displayed (at one point I found an extra small tank top and a large jacket right next to each other). But, if you are persistent like me you could end up with some quality pieces at good prices.

There also was a good selection of unisex sweatshirts and sweatpants.

Other items and accessories available were hypebeast magazines from publishers such as Highsnobiety and Exit at prices around $10-$20, football gloves (not joking), around 6 hair clips (again, not joking), some perfumes and candles. There was a good hat section that included beanies, baseball caps, and those adorable floppy straw hats that every Instagram influencer loves to wear to the beach.

Overall I would give this sale a 4/10. The random and mostly lackluster accessories section served as a microcosm of the sale as a whole. The organization (or lack thereof) made trying to shop feel like a chore. There were some great pieces but I had to look hard for them. Frankly, this sale isn’t really worth going to unless you want a challenge.

P.S: Lol. I just realized that the jacket I got has a stain. Proceed with caution.

Stila, Tocca, & Dr. Jart: a Women’s Beauty Heaven!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Stila, Tocca, and Dr. Jart sample sale was a truly pleasant shopping experience! From the extremely organized table displays to the plethora of different kinds of colors, this sample sale hit the “beauty” jackpot! All of the tables were perfectly categorized by both brand and product. All of the items were laid out nicely and were easy to identify. There were fantastic aesthetics around the room, that lit up the entire space. The sample sale was also not too crowded, which made it enjoyable to shop. It was easy to find a specific brand or product that you are looking for, and the staff was also VERY nice and helpful! There were around 2-3 staff members behind each of the tables, and they were more than happy to answer questions.

Merchandise and pricing: There was A LOT of merchandise. It looked as if all of the products were high in stock, and not going to run out anytime soon. Also, all of the products looked very high in quality, and brand new. From sparkly eye shadow to the best scented candles, this sample sale had it all. As far as pricing goes, everything was reasonably priced. For Artis: the elite smoke collection did not exceed $30, the Brushcraft collection ranged from $9-$14, the Elite Mirror collection ranged from $18-$180, and the Fluenta collection ranged from $20-$225. Dr. Jart prices ranged from $1-$28. Now onto Stila: Their prices ranged from $4 to $15; Sponges were $4, concealer and lip coating $5, liquid lip, eye shadow, and lip coating $8, and the brow pencil $9. Lastly, Tocca had A LOT of candles that smelled terrific. Each candle was $18. Tocca had candle scents such as vanilla jasmine, grapefruit melon, and patchouli amber. Tocca also had a ton of different body creams- they had a few tables that were ONLY for the creams! Tocca also had AMAZING options for holiday gifts, such as a 3-in-one set that had creams and fragrances inside. This set was originally $38, and was now $15. The ONLY negative side about this sale was that it was rather difficult to identify the prices of the products. Not every table had the prices written on them, so that led to a lot of customers having to ask for help. There were signs on the wall that said the categories and prices, but it was still rather hard to identify which product went with what category on the list.

Rating: 9/10. There were a lot of beautiful products, and everything was reasonably priced. They had a variety of great options and even had holiday gifts for both friends and family. It is definitely worth going!

The Dion Lee Sample Sale was a fun Shopping Spree!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: Dion Lee’s sample sale set up was very neat and organized and each rack was categorized by color. There were only a few customers shopping which made the experience quiet and enjoyable. All of the clothing was amazing quality and in great shape; everything looked brand new! There was one small fitting room, and one large mirror in the middle of the store. The girls working there were very sweet and helpful. They kept marking down the items every so often which was a plus! They had a section for shoes and accessories in the corner, which was organized and laid out very neatly.

Merchandise/pricing: The merchandise’s prices were still pretty high, but the items were fabulous quality and stunning (might be worth it!) Each item had its own price- there was no set price depending on the categories. There were a lot of stunning silk lace long dresses and those were around $200-300. The girls working there said that those gowns retail for around $600. All of their bathing suits were $60-$70, shoes were $100-$150, and earrings were $100-$250. They had a great variety of shoes: bootie heels, sandals, flip flops, and dressy heels. They had a limited selection of shoe sizes however; there were ALL only sizes 39 and 40. They also only had a few pairs of earrings left and all of them were silver. There were A few bathing suits left, and frankly, none looked worth their prices.

Rating: 7.5/10. Despite the fact that the prices were still sort of high, the items were excellent quality and all STUNNING pieces. It is only worth it to go if you are nearby.

The Barbour Sample Sale was the Place to be

By: Jacqueline Munro

The first-ever Barbour sample sale took place today in their showroom on West 57th, and boy was it a success. The line was two hours long at 11 am; the employees were giving people tickets telling them to come back later in the evening after they restocked. But by 3:00 they had already run out of merchandise to restock with.

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of wax coats that they still had left for men around 4 pm, but there were none left for women. Most of them were in the mid $100s, a little more than 50% off. They also had shirts, sweaters, and other kinds of jackets and coats ranging from $87-$455. For women, most of the styles that I saw were either raincoats or short quilted jackets. They were priced in the mid $100s. There was also a small selection of shirts and sweaters, but nothing that really impressed me. As far as sizing goes, all of the men’s coats were mediums, and the women’s coats seemed like they were all about a s/m. All of the staff members at this sale were super friendly and efficient; I was impressed considering that they were first-timers!

Overall I rated this sale a 6/10. I wish that they had more of a size range and a larger amount of back stock, but overall it was a success.

Hanro Sample Sale? More like Han-no.

By: Jacqueline Munro

I had no expectations when walking into the Hanro sample sale, yet somehow I was still let down. When I got off the elevator and headed towards the company’s showroom, I was greeted by changing women who were throwing their “don’t wants” all over the lobby. It was a horrific sight. AND this was a unisex sale so at any point, men could have walked in on them changing… But anyway, the showroom was tiny and packed with racks of pajamas; it was a complete mess. The racks were haphazardly jammed up, and the bras and panties were stuffed into bins that could give an OCD person like me nightmares for weeks!

At this sale, there were lots of different types of PJs including t-shirts, tanks, pants, shorts, and nightgowns, as well as sweaters, bras, and undies. Prices ranged from $15-$100 which in my opinion is absurd. I got pajama pants from the gap that are just as cute and comfortable as any of the ones at this sale, and for less money. If you’re paying this much money for sample sale pajamas, I suggest you go to the doctor and ask them to check if your head is screwed on straight. Overall, I rated this sale a 5/10. Not worth going to unless the Queen of England is going to be seeing you in your PJs sometime soon.

Prada Sample Sale Not Worth It

By: Riva Neumann

Everyone was shocked to see a Prada Sample Sale, the first in 11 years, being held at 260 sample sale. Invites to 260’s email list went out, inviting shoppers to come the 20th before being opened to the public on the 21st. We had such high hopes for this sale and they were crashed by the lack of inventory at the sale and the high as hell prices. 40-50% off was the average price reduction… and I was not happy.

You can find a better deal at any department store, so don’t waste your time waiting on line for god knows how long and leaving empty handed. There were maybe 4 racks of women’s ready to wear and some sparsely filled shelves of bags. The nylon bag table was full, but everything else was empty.

The shoe selection was disappointing to say the least. Maybe 10 different styles and barely any sizes. The men’s section took up the entire downstairs area, but that room had 2 racks of clothes, some shelves and tables with wallets and a couple of bags. There was also a small table of exotics that was pretty full. Probably, because the items are so expensive (I assume.)

Overall, 5.5/10. Not worth the trouble or the money. You’ll find everything at this sale cheaper at Nordstrom soon.

Nothing Left at the Cinzia Rocca Sample Sale

By: Gabriella Rose

The Cinzia Rocca sample sale was on the penthouse and had a beautiful view. However, it was a true madhouse! It was very busy and crowded with a lot of loud people trying on the clothing. There were only about 4/5 jackets and pants left. The coats were very good quality and looked brand new. The pants were all very bright colors and very cute. As far as pricing goes: orange stickers were $75, green stickers $200, red stickers $300, and blue stickers $25. This sample sale was also CASH ONLY. There were multiple people yelling, “Does anyone have change for a 10? And for a 5?”

Overall I rated this sale a 5/10. I couldn’t even give it a higher score cause there was pretty much no merchandise left- most of the racks are truly empty. Not worth going- skip!!!

Didn’t LOVE the Loveshackfancy Sample Sale

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: Way before opening the Loveshackfancy sample sale, there was a line out the door. Customers were ready to shop! Loveshackfancy’s racks were perfectly organized by all of the different categories: long dresses, short dresses, sweaters, long skirts, short skirts, etc. The room looked pretty organized before everyone came in, but once they start shopping, I am thinking otherwise. The shopping space also was not big, and didn’t look like it could fit so many people inside. Loveshackfancy used to have their sample sale on the 5th floor of their building, but this year they for some reason couldn’t.

Pricing and merchandise: Loveshackfancy had a lot of good merchandise, but by the looks of all of the customers flowing in, there soon may not be anything left! They had some very beautiful dresses and long skirts. They had a small rack of short skirts and only had 4-5 different types. The pricing was still a little high: long skirts are now $159, short dresses $139, blouses $89, short skirts $99, long skirts $129, sweaters $149, and the love dress $49. Now onto the kids: there was only one small rack that had a few pieces of kids clothing on it. The rack was also on the back room of the floor and was hard to find. There were also no accessories.

Rating: 6/10.

Gracy Accad Sample Sale – Perfect for an Occasion

gracy accad sample sale 2019

The Gracy Accad sample sale is perfect for you if you meet two conditions: 1. you have an event coming up that you are shopping for & 2. you are a very small human being.

All Gracy Accad items are haute couture, the brand is continuously covered in Vogue bridal but they are very small. The pricing also had a lot of variability – between $300 and $3,000 for dresses. There were many evening dresses with unique patterns and appliqués and an entire rack of bridal gowns.

The good news is that the sample sale is hosted by the designer – so if you find the right dress but need some additional material or adjustments – they could set you up on the spot. If you have a good friend who is getting married soon or a gala to attend, hit this one up.
