ShopShops: Just, NO.

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The set up of this sale was on the peculiar side; it was right next (and rather on top of) an open office space with multiple people working. In terms of this sale, the merchandise was also messy. All of the racks were not categorized by item, besides for the pants/skirts rack. The rest of the racks had a bunch of different occasion and style dresses, sweaters, coats, and more. It was not easy finding what you specifically wanted, and the staff was also super quiet/ not helpful. The accessories and shoes were placed in the back of the room, and there was tons of merchandise.

Pricing/ merchandise: All of the items were each individually marked with colored stickers; the prices ranged from $10-$100 (so I’ve thought…). Despite the fact that the pricing sheets had the color-coded stickers with prices beside them, tons of the items were “exceptions.” I found it rather disappointing when I picked up a Moose Knuckle coat and seeing the blue tag on it, thinking it was $100, to later discover that this was an exception piece- bummer! As far as the rest of the clothing, there were tons of scarves, (not worth the travel if you want just a scarf..) and sweaters. I was pleasantly surprised to see a few Alice and Olivia sweaters fro $50. Lastly, there were some great shoes (channel slides) however it was very hit or miss: the chances that the pair you liked happened to be your exact size were slim to none. There was mostly one of each shoe. Honestly, this sample sale made me feel that I was at a thrift shop. Defiantly not worth the travel, unless you live in the same apartment building.

Rate: 3.5/10 Some good finds, but mostly the entire sale was hit or totally miss.

Pippa and Julie- GORGEOUS children’s dresses for occasions!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Pippa and Julie set up was organized and totally spacious- It was actually completely empty when I went! The sale had accessories right when you walk in, and the first two racks were all things Disney. Throughout the room were racks of gorgeous fancy dresses for girls to wear to weddings and special events. There were tons of options and multiple styles: this sale is worthwhile to go to if you are in need of a nice dress (there was nothing else besides for dresses).

Merchandise/ pricing: The pricing of this sale was as follows: dresses $20, legging sets $15, separates $10, and accessories up to $30. There were tons of dresses at this sale- I saw gorgeous high/low dresses, and very cute Disney three-piece sets. There was also only one small section for boys, due to the fact that this brand is mostly a girl’s line. In addition, the staff was very sweet. They were more than happy to show me all of the dresses and styles, and where I can find additional sizes. This sale was fantastic and the prices were unbeatable!!

Rate: 6/10– great dresses, one section for boys, worthwhile if you need a nice children’s dress !

CHOCHENG? More like “NO”CHENG

By: Eve Orbach

This CHOCHENG fall and winter sale features discounts of about 68%. Let me save your time: this article has more content than the actual sale! There were legit two racks of clothing. The styles of clothing, the amounts, and prices make this “sale” a total “fail” (and it rhymes so it must be true).

The prices ranged from about $200–$1,000, but really veered more on the $1,000 side. The only good thing here was the fact that there were lots of sizes. The pieces available were jackets, sweaters, one skirt (no joke) and a scarf.

The small space was easy to navigate because there was just such a teeny amount of stock. The lady working the store was super nice, so yay for that.

I give this sale a 1/10. 1 point for the range of sizes. (And that one point feels pretty generous)

Cash and credit card accepted. All sales final. Please spare yourself.

Oh No, Dannijo

Eve Orbach

This Dannijo sample features jewelry, bags, and clothing at discounts of up to 90%—but even though these deals seem ahhh—mazing, the sale was more ahhh—verage. Jewelry was certainly the most prevalent item at the sale, but there was certainly a nice mix of bags and clothes.

The prices had a wide range of about $10 to $100, so no matter what your budget is you should be able to find something. The styles of the items also “ranged” from stylish to overly kitchy. You had to search through the junk to find the diamonds in the rough, but again—there were some diamonds!

The space was stunning and very boho chic. Everything was organized by style. The staff was helpful and kind.

All sales are final.

In my books, this sale was a 5/10. It took effort to find the great prices and pieces, which I found annoying. But honestly if I was less tired I probably would’ve appreciated the challenge ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Monkeying Around at Kipling

By: Eve Orbach

Today’s visit to the Kipling sale was the first sale in a while that didn’t make me want to pull my hair out. This sale features bags at discounts of up to 70%. There are suitcases, backpacks, luggage tags, wallets, totes, and more. Before attending the sale I would have said that my favorite part about this brand is the adorable lil’ gorilla that comes attached. But after today’s sample sale, I would say that after spending time looking around, the actual merchandise is in fact pretty cute. In addition to the merch being cute…so were the prices. Which range from $5—$100, but most items fall around the $20–50 range.

There are bright solid colors as well as interesting patterned pieces.

There was a ton of merchandise and the store was neatly organized by item type. Lots of the merchandise was still wrapped up, which was good because 260’s stuff is known to have stains every now and then…😳

The setting is spacious and easy to navigate. Plus there were no lines—woohoo!

The best deals of the sale by far were luggage tags for $5, large backpacks for $55, and travel cases for $10. But, as always is the case with sales hosted by 260, wait until later in the sale for further markdowns.

If you’re in the market for some new bags or pieces of luggage, it’s definitely worth a stop by. (On the last day, of course 😉

This sale is a 4.5: it’s solid but nothing to get too jazzed about.

You’ll find me doling out 10’s the day that Chanel is on sale for 80% off; which in sample sale terms is the equivalent to saying “when pigs fly”. Sorry, people! Your girl has got high standards for you.

Pretty Pricey Prive

This Prive sale at Chelsea Market features designer Brunello Cucinelli at discounts of up to 80%. There are options for both men and women. Shirts, pants, dresses, jackets, and accessories can be found.

Unless you don’t really have a budget— stop reading. This sale was seriously so expensive to the point where I was borderline offended. While there were some okay-priced items (shoes for $225, shirts for $125), lots of the sale featured coats. Maybe these coats have some insane magical powers or something; but if these coats aren’t made of real fur I refuse to find a discount of —$5,000 impressive when it shouldn’t have been priced that high in the first place! But I digress.

There was a men’s section and a women’s section. All items were hung up neatly on hangers and organized by type. The sizes here were mostly mediums and larges for women, but the men’s section had a good range of sizes. The accessories section included some pretty cute shoes and some pretty hideous bags. Hey, I guess they must be really about “balance”.

If you’re a big fan of the brand then maybe it’s worth stopping by for the lower-priced items. All sales are final.

I’ll give this one 2 points—1 for the super nice security guard and 1 for the one item I could actually maybe see myself buying.

ROLLER Rabbit is a ROLLER coaster of all things flannel!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The set up of this sample sale was not the most organized. There were boxes of accessories, bedding, and children clothing all scattered throughout the space. From the second you walk in, you may get a minor headache! Roller Rabbit had accessories on the left-hand side of the room, kids racks in the far back, and the rest of the clothing throughout. There were tons of racks, and it was quite chaotic to say the least. This sale is worthwhile if you are looking for flannel pajamas!

Merchandise/ set up: The pricing of the merchandise was as follows: HOME merchandise ranged from prices $3-$80, mens clothing ranged from $2-$40, kids from $5-$20, and women’s $2-$70. Prices were low, but the brand itself is not so expensive to begin with. There were tons of merchandise in stock, ranging from basic denim jeans to cute winter sweaters. However, there was only one men’s rack and about two children’s.

Rate: 6/10, low prices, lots of accessories, and only one men’s rack.

“Fjallraven” Isn’t the Only “F” Word that Comes to Mind Here

By: Eve Orbach

  1. How do I actually spell this word
  2. 30% off a fairly small selection of winter clothes is not the big end of the season sale they’re marketing this as
  3. Just save yourself the time— they don’t even have that one backpack that made the brand popular

This Fjallraven sale is a 3/10 due to poor discounts and a small selection of stock. It takes place with lots of non-discounted items, and this sale honestly feels like a way to lure people in to buy these regularly priced items. Winter coats, accessories, vests, sweaters, and of course, backpacks are featured. The prices for the items vary greatly. The thicker winter coats fall around $315 and the thinner ones at around $175. Accessories are priced on the lower side, but in my opinion are still overpriced. The best priced backpack I could find is $45, but the other models are much more expensive.

The clothing all has that “I hike like it’s my job”,  lumberjacky vibe. Everything looked super cozy and warm, if you could look past the fact that these discounts were less than cool (sorry, I can’t resist a good pun!).

Items were organized by type. The staff was outgoing and helpful. There were no long lines, thank God. But the fact that the lack of lines was my favorite part of this one is prettyyyy telling. Not. Worth. It.

What: Fjallraven sale.                                                                                                                                             When: February 10–17, 2020.                                                                                                                                         Where: 38 Greene Street.

Theory Men’s Sale: Okay in Theory, Disappointing in Reality

By: Eve Orbach

At this Theory sample sale there are discounts of up to 70% on men’s shirts, pants, jackets, and accessories. Honestly these Theory sales are a dime a dozen and are happening pretty often. While there were some nice options, the prices make this sale a no-go for me. Unless you’re particularly jonesing for boring work clothes you can find at better prices, spare yourself. Also, I may or may not have found some pieces with actual holes in them—and not in a cute, distressed way—in a ripped, ruined way.

As is the typical case with 260, the first day of the sale was crowded (even with the huge showroom) and overpriced. Lots of the stock was well over $200 and there were long lines for checking out.

Some of the best deals of the sale (so far) were definitely found in the accessories section. Ties were $39, hats were also $39, and belts $29.

There was tons of merchandise and everything was hung up and divided neatly on hangers. If you need some refreshing for your basics, wait until the last day for further discounts. Beware that this is not a sale that’s worth going out of your way for, folks.

I give this one a 3/10 for underwhelming merchandise and even more underwhelming discounts.

Cash and credit card accepted. All sales are final.

Hey there, NYC bargain shoppers, Shopdrop girl here.

This time we have some solid advice for you: finally something to fulfill the disappointing empty racks at Barneys… the shop375 clearance event is here! This, my dear, is what one may call the DROP IT ALL AND GO sale.
