Sonia Rykiel Sample Sale – Gorgeous and Expensive

sonia rykiel sample sale fall 2019

We got a sneak peak of the Sonia Rykiel sample sale today (as did our VIPs) and here’s what we think in a nutshell: great stuff, very expensive.

When you walk into the room, the hallway area is filled with bags, that range from $125 to $300. Some people were complaining that the bags were $100 at the last sale and are $125 now, but all in all, a lot of people walked out with bags.

The inner room was filled with clothes. Boxes of knits in the center and racks with sweaters, dresses, skirts and pants around the perimeter of the room. There were signs on the wall with pricing. Sweaters ranged from $110 to $300, skirts were $175, short dresses $225 and longer dresses for $300.

Should you go? That ultimately depends on how much you care about the price and how much you are interested in spending. I loved the stuff, but did not want to spend $300 on a sweater so 6.5 out of 10 for me.

Lingua Franca Sample Sale Is Still Too Expensive

We’re not going to lie. The Lingua Franca sale was kind of a disappointment. First off, there wasn’t too much of a selection – just a few sad racks of sweaters with some inspirisms. And whatever they did have was super expensive, even with the discount. Sweaters ranged from $100 to $185 (and these aren’t even fancy party sweaters). These are your average wear on Sunday with jeans type of sweaters.

The sale only had some sweaters but no cardigans (like – at all). And there was a small rack of children’s sweaters. The Yoya sale took place in the same location and was much better in that there was a lot more merchandise, and prices were 60-70% off retail.

All in all, stay home. This sample sale isn’t worth it. There are many sweater sample sales coming up and you’ll have plenty to choose from for a much better price. We’re giving this sale a 4 out of 10.

Interesting Stuff at the Vivienne Westwood Sample Sale

By: Riva Neumann

The Vivienne Westwood Sample Sale was not super impressive and was just like your typical 260 sample sale. They had a lot of good pieces though at some pretty good discounts so I don’t think it was a total bust. They have a good selection of tops starting at $55 for t-shirts and going up to $150 for knitwear. Bottoms are all $50 besides trousers which as $90. Day dresses and jumpsuits are $100, cocktails dresses are $320 and gowns are $450. The jackets were nice but they were $320 which I think is pricey for a sample sale.

There was a lot of fashion jewelry as well as a nice selection of bags. Fashion jewelry starts at $35 and goes up to $130 while bags start at $50 and go up to $250. The shoes were also a great steal, if there was no box they were $15, but by the time I got there I couldn’t find any. Other shoes started at $50 and went up to $250. They also had a nice selection of accessories such as scarves, gloves and wallets.

Overall, I gave this sale a 6/10, I didn’t find it super exciting but if you are a fan, you would probably really like this sale!

Another Great Joie, Equipment, and Current Elliott Sale at 260

By: Jacqueline Munro

Although I hate to praise 260, it’s impossible not to after their second great multi-brand sale this season. I went to their Joie, Equipment, and Current Elliott sale back in May and I was totally blown away. The prices were amazing and there was a ton of cute merchandise which is completely off-brand for 260. Although there were some repeat styles this time around, they did have a lot of new merchandise and the prices remained impressive.

The Joie inventory was defintiely the most stocked at this sample sale. There were tons of tops, jackets, dresses, pants, shoes, and even accessories. The Current Elliott section offered lots of cute, comfy sweatshirts as well as t-shirts, and a minimal selection of stylish jeans. Sadly there wasn’t as much Equipment this time, but they still had plenty of stunning classic blouses for $60 **cue tears of joy**. This is a great sample sale to go to if you want to start prepping your wardrobe for the fall. Overall I rated this sale a 7/10. Unfortunately because the sale is taking place at 260 that inevitably means rude staff members and aggressive crouds which make it a miserable environment to shop in. But other than that, I cannot complain. Definitely hit up this sale, it has become one of my favorites!

Inside the Luxury Sample Sale for Kids

We checked out the Luxury kids sample sale hosted in Chelsea by Eclipse NY. We slipped in before the sale opened its doors to the public, so our experience might have been neater than the public hours. But we loved it. The space was large, organized, full of designer brands for kids. Brands included Lily Gaufrette, Kenzo, Paul Smith. Most items were under $50 a pop. And there was a large selection from 0 months to 16 years of age.

The staff was also super sweet. For those who ask, the clothing was split by category and not by brand, so a Kenzo dress = a Paul Smith dress and vice versa. If you have little bunnies in your gardens, definitely check this one out. 10 out of 10.

Sales Styles Series – Interview with Thrift & Tell

By: Ashley Randall

We had the opportunity to chat with the queen of second hand retail –Thrift & Tell. If you haven’t heard of Thrift & Tell, stop what you are doing (now go check out her page). Well now you can appreciate her amazing Instagram flow and aesthetic. Thrift & Tell similar to our other sale fashionistas, scours online for the best deals (honestly we love to see it). Here is the twist – Thrift & Tell specializes in second hand retail. She has many guides for grabbing designer consignment as well tips for selling merchandise on your own. While Thrift & Tell has been a bargain hunter since birth (sale shoppers are born – not made) and she just woke up one morning with the name (the rest is history). Not only does Thrift & Tell share her amazing finds with all of us, she also loves interviewing and writing for her blog The Tell. She said the best place to shop online to get the best deals is the Real Real, if you are open to consignment. While she prefers to hunt for merchandise at the Gap, Old Navy and good old Nordstrom Rack in person, but she finds that Neiman Marcus and Saks offer better deals online. While she does not have the opportunity to stop by sample sales in NYC, she does score some awesome stuff online! While if you were to spot here on any ordinary day, she would most likely be wearing a blouse, scarf, skinny jeans and Chanel ballet flats

What is your favorite part about the sale community?

  • “I love how you can instantly bond with someone over a good deal. We have all experienced the thrill of finding something 80% off and it is fun to share the excitement of someone else’s fashion coup.”

Good Discounts at the Monse Sample Sale

By: Riva Neumann

The Monse Sample Sale was the place to be for some nice discounts! Though by the time the sale opened to the public there wasn’t much left, what was there was still worthwhile to shop. There were a lot of showstopping pieces starting at around $200, and some more ready-to-wear pieces starting at $50. While there was a lot of really good pieces available, there was a lot of damaged pieces as well. The good news is that the damaged pieces were significantly less so it was worthwhile to buy and have fixed.

The shoes were definitely something to get at this sale. Shoes ranged from $50-$150 and pretty much all were in good condition. They had flats, heels and boots as well as $10 slides.

Overall, I gave this sale an 8.5/10. I would highly recommend this sale if you are familiar with the brand, but even if you aren’t, this was a great sale that should not be missed!

Solid and Striped Sample Sale has Solid Prices

By: Riva Neumann

The Solid and Striped Sample Sale is a great place to get some bathing suits as summer winds down, especially for Labor Day weekend! They have a variety of different styles available in all different sizes. They mostly have super cute one pieces for $60 and a decent amount of 2 pieces for $30 each. They also have bags available as well, small for $30, large for $40.

The sale has more of a variety of one piece bathing suits in many more styles than the two piece ones. There were racks of one pieces in all shapes, sizes and colors while there were mostly a lot of very few styles available for two piece ones. There weren’t a lot of racks at this sale in general but for the most part you can definitely find something you like!

Overall, I gave this sale a 7.5/10, Happy shopping!

Amazing Prices at the Jonathan Simkhai Sample Sale

Jonathan simkhai sample sale 2019

Eclipse came from LA once again to host the Jonathan Simkhai sample sale in NY. We were delighted to check it out during the last few moments of set up. The Jonathan Simkhai sample sale had the most gorgeous dresses and jackets for really reasonable prices. $185 for a blazer? Now that’s a good deal!

Cocktail dresses were $195 and gowns were priced as marked. Don’t worry, they were also highly discounted. There were also some ready-to-wear items, including tops for $85 and skirts for $80. They had a lot of pants for $95 and a nice selection of activewear as well.

There were a few racks of one-of-a-kind pieces: specific gowns and some dresses. Overall, nice selection of each style in multiple sizes! I gave this sale an 8.5/10, this is a great sale to go to and would highly recommend!

The NYFW Sample Sale for Those Who Love the Hunt

NYFW sample sale

An international magazine hosted a sample sale to get rid of all of the items they bought for photo shoots. Once I spoke with the super sweet staff member, I understood what was flying. That background explained why there were so many random one-of-a-kind pieces at this sale. I spotted 2 Zimmerman dresses for $199 each, a Club Monaco sale for $30, a Sonia Rykiel top for $20.

There were Zara and H&M items for $5-$10, and fashion earrings for $15-$50. There was even a pair of Erdem, Delce & Gabbana sunglasses for $150 each. Was the clothing worn? Not exactly 2nd hand, but yes, it was worn to shoots. For someone who wants fresh out of the bag items, this was not the right sale.

For someone who enjoys the hunt, and sorting through 20 items to find the perfect deal, this deal was thrilling. It’s over now, but next time the sale is announced – I’m in.
