While some people might have never heard of the Teri Jon brand, for those who care – there is literally no other brand in the world. We got a sneak peak to the sample sale which opens to the public on Sunday. People paid $40 (not $10 per month you folks) but $40 to come in and shop early. And let me tell you, there were plenty of people willing to dish out an extra $40 bucks to shop the Teri Jon sample sale early.
Setup: There were two rooms – one for true samples, one for stock. Dresses hanging everywhere in all different styles. It felt stuffy because there were so many people. They were grabbing clothes right and left and trying the shmotkas on right there and then.
Merchandise: A ton of appropriate dresses, perfect for mothers of the brides. Many Synagogue/Church dresses as well – either with sleeves or of decent (ahem) length. It wasn’t organized by style or anything – so you really had to have the patience to go through every dress on the rack until you found something you liked.
Pricing: The pricing was one of the best aspects of the sample sale. Samples were between $65 for separates and $125 for gowns. Stock prices were higher but still a great discount given retail numbers in the high hundreds. Stock separates started at $70 for separates, up to $150 for daytime dresses and $250 for evening gowns. There was also a clearance rack with items from stock that were priced higher than samples but lower than stock.
The Zadig & Voltaire Sample Sale was definitely an expensive sample sale. The discounts weren’t as great as some would want but it was pretty decent discounts. The pieces were really nice and there was a lot available for men and women and one rack of children’s clothes. The staff was also super helpful in identifying the different prices for the cashmere sweaters since they were all in the same rack which was annoying to go through but the staff was really nice about helping to figure out prices.
The accessories and shoes were my personal favorites! The bags were super cute and nothing was more than $200! The shoes were also so great; sneakers were $90, boots $175 and sandals and other shoes were only $100! Their leather selection was also pretty good and there was a lot available for $250 The sale was also not as crowded and there was no line to get in.
Overall, I gave this sale a 7.5/10, check it out if you are dying to get some Zadig & Voltaire pieces for a discount!

The selection of merchandise at the John Varvatos sample sale is small but the discounts are big! Unless you can’t handle the heat, I think it might be a good sale to hit up; but be warned, it is blistering hot in the showroom.
At this sample sale, the selection is limited but still impressive. If you wear a size medium on top, you’ll hit the jackpot; there are lots of options here for you. But if you’re any other size you might strike out. At the sale, there are a lot of stylish jackets (in a variety of styles ranging from blazers to leather) and the graphic tees are really cool and soft (comfort is key). The sweaters look extremely comfy too; if you’re able to buy something knowing you can’t wear it for an entire season, I admire your strength. There is a decent selection of shoes but they only have sizes 10 or 11. If you’re in need of work shoes but you don’t like the typical designer styles you might be able to find something you like here. **Calling all stylish commuters:** there is also a wall of backpacks which are all 80% off! Most importantly though, all of the discounts here are steep, which we love to see! It’s not every day that you see good sample sale pricing!
Overall I’m giving this sale a 7/10. I wish they had more merchandise and a wider variety of sizes, but the pricing is undeniably good. So if you have the time to check out this sale and you are in dire need of contemporary men’s clothing I’d say it is worth going to. But if you faint in there, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Good luck, shoppers!

The Reformation Sample Sale has some really good pieces available at some really good prices. The short dresses rack is for sure one of the places you need to check out at this sale! At $79, it can’t hurt to pick one (or seven). The long dresses are also a steal at $150 as well as skirts for $50!! This sale is the place to pick up some new summer staple pieces as well. Swimsuits are also one of my favorites so check them out if you are in need of something to wear to the beach this summer.
There were a few downsides to this sale, mainly the INSANE line to get in. I only waited nearly 40 minutes in the rain at 10 AM to get inside but the line was only getting longer and longer as I waited. The line wasn’t as long when I left but that was probably because it started raining more. Also, there were a few damaged pieces on the racks so watch out for those.
And it’s important to note that many users complained about the items at the sale being the same as the merchandise at the previous sale.
Overall, I gave this sale a 7/10. Check it out if you have the time to wait on line!

We got a preview of the Emm Kuo sample sale this evening and were delighted with what we found. For a person looking for a practical handbag or a statement clutch to wear to a friends wedding, this sample sale is the place to get it.
Setup: the sample sale of the brand took place in the brand showroom on 29th street. The room wasn’t large but it felt spacious and there was lots of light. The bags were laid out on tables and shelves. Accessories were hanging from the walls. The staff was very knowledgeable about the items and helpful as well.
Merchandise: The tables and racks were filled with bags. That being said, there weren’t more than 4-5 copies of a single item there. At retail, the brand sells at FiveStory NY & Anthropologie. All of the stuff is made out of the good materials: genuine leather (made in Europe), shearling fur, hand-painted art. Every bag from that brand is unique.
Pricing: The most affordable table was the $75 section: that included hand-painted satchels, belts, small bags and other accessories. Practical take-to-work handbags were either $150 or $200. Given that they retail for $600+, the discount was close to 70% off. The clutches with delicate decor were the most expensive, priced at $380 per item. On the bright side, Emm Kuo offered an additional 20% off the entire purchase for anyone buying more than 3 items.
Our advice – if you want a nice bag (either for yourself) or to gift to someone else, definitely hit up the Emm Kuo sample sale. We’re giving it an 8.5 out of 10.

We found out about the Vilebrequin sample sale almost by accident. It used to be held at 260 in the old days, and we still remember when lines would be out the block as wives and husbands waited to stock up on cute trunks for the Summer. This year, the sample sale is hosted by the company that owns the brand. In a nutshell, here’s our summary. The good news is that the prices are super-enticing, and the selection of merchandise is great. The bad news is that there is a bit of a lack of predictability of when the sale is open and when closed. We’ll try to keep you updated throughout next week to let you know what the update is.
Setup: The sample sale is set up in a 2-floor showroom in the fashion district. The first floor is filled with Andrew Marc, Donna Karan merchandise for men and women. The second floor is filled with Vilebrequin merchandise.
Merchandise: Most of the Vilebrequin items are for men, and are organized by size. The items include swim trunks, bermuda shorts, pants, polos, shirts and shoes. There are many different colors and patterns to choose from. There is a bin with bathing suits for women as well and bins with hats and other accessories downstairs near the cash register. The items are made in Italy and clearly high quality.
Pricing: The pricing at the Vilebrequin is VERY attractive. And yes, you can find shorts for $20-$30, pants for $30, leather high-quality shoes for $50 and polos for $20.
The sale was supposed to be open until 6PM, but at 4:13 people started reaching out telling us they went to the sale but the sale was closed. We’ll try to figure out what happened and to let you know when it is open. But if you can get there during one of those hours, you’re bound to walk away with some goodies. Because of the open-closed issue – we’re dropping a point. 7/10.

The Paul Smith Sample Sale had more men’s sportscoats and suit jackets than I have ever seen in my life. Racks and racks of sportscoats, suit jackets and casual jackets lined all of the walls of the showroom. They also had a nice selection of men’s trousers, shoes and accessories, all at a pretty discounted rate. While the menswear was abundant, the womenswear available was pitiful. One small racks of haphazardly thrown womenswear doesn’t exactly qualify for advertising womenswear. There were a few jackets and some knitwear but overall, not worth it for the womenswear.
The women’s shoes, however, had a really good selection of sneakers, dress shoes and flats ranging from $70-$125. The shoes would be worth the time to head on over to this sale for us ladies!! The kids’ clothing rack was also pretty sparse and had very few pieces ranging in price from $15-$60.
Overall, I gave this sale a 6.5/10. The sale was pretty crowded when I went and the lack of womenswear very much influenced this score.

Ahh yes, it’s that time of year again. Spring is in full swing, we can shed the winter layers and attend the ever most exciting event of the year: the Manolo Blahnik sample sale. For one day only you can travel down the road from the Manolo NYC boutique to the Warwick hotel conference room, and score a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes for under $200! However, this year it was more Lipstick Jungle than Sex and the City.
Shoppers line up at the Manolo Blahnik sample sale at 4:00 a.m. Considering the fact that doors open to the general public at 11:00 a.m., that is a serious commitment. A Manolo Blahnik sample sale veteran informed us about the procedure:
1. You write your name down as you walk in
2. Receive a numbered ticket based on the order of the list
That didn’t go as planned, since the new staff members did not honor the list we waiters in line created. That caused a group of exhausted, anxious women to claw their way to the front to grab one of the first tickets.
The ticket you receive will have your assigned group number. There are ten people per group, and groups enter based on capacity. The Manolo team attempts to organize shoes by size on tables; however, after the vultures get in, you will likely find a pair of 35s in the 41.5 table. Once you’re inside the stock room, you have unlimited time to shop as many pairs as you’d like (or can afford). At check out, they will strike out the label with a Sharpie and you hand over your cash. Yes, old fashioned cash, as this is a cash only sale.
All this numbered ticket business happens at 11:00 a.m. because, the VIP group (assigned letters A – I) will enter first at 8:30 a.m. No, you can’t just scam a VIP ticket. You have to be high-up in the fashion editorial world, Manolo Blahnik’s wholesale vendor, or an employee/friend of the brand. That is where a lot of the REALLY good stuff goes. So if you’re general public, don’t even count on snagging any classics or Hangisi.
However, there is still a great selection if you are in groups 1 – 5, decent selection (good stuff but you have to search) if you are in groups 6 – 10. After group 10, then it really is every woman for herself. As you can expect, there are hoarders who get there early and grab all the shoes. It’s the classic case of the early bird gets the worm. They DO restock. I left with three pairs of brand new shoes valued at around $2,000 for $460.
It’s important to mention that the resellers penetrated the VIP group and were cleaning out the sale. Some of them (shoppers!!) were also walking around with a marker and marking the shoes they wanted to speed out the checkout process.
The staffing issue was so bad, it earned a separate paragraph in my blog. I’ve been to sample sales before and don’t expect to be treated like royalty. That being said, I was still blown away by how rude the staff was. In the middle of the day, they just stopped the sale to eat lunch. I mean, it’s a freakin’ one-day sale. Bring in a few extra staff members and take shifts for lunch.
Be aware that there are some true samples there. Some shoes have been obviously previously worn with a roughed-up sole, and there is no further discount if that is the case — my advice to you: spring for the ones that are unused. Yes, you can get used ones fixed, but unless you LOVE them, there’s better stuff out there.
This is a type of sale you have to be a pro to maximize results. So here’s a lightning round of tips:
-Get there early, or pay a line sitting service
-If you see something that you think is cute just grab it – grab everything first and then try on
-Cash only so hit up the ATM (and make sure you have money in that account)
-After you get your ticket you can leave and come back – bring what you need to stay occupied and stay there, you might miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime
-It’s a friendly crowd, make a friend
-Look at ALL tables (I found a 38 in a 41 table)
-Some shoppers are legit crazy – don’t let them push you around
-Internet/cell service is horrible – be prepared
-Dress in comfy shoes that make trying on other shoes easy – the room is small and chaotic so comfort and efficiency are your BFF (ladies, this isn’t a fashion show, you’re not here to impress, you’re here to shop the best deals on Manolo’s)
-Treat yourself to a nice lunch after going through all of that

The For Love and Lemons Sample Sale had some really great finds and it was so easy to find them! Each rack was very clearly labeled with the type of clothing which made shopping a whole lot easier. They had racks of embellished dresses for $150 and they were all so pretty, I just needed an occasion so I could buy them all! They also had a nice selection of regular dresses, tops and bottoms. The line was also not bad ( I thought it would be much worse than it was) I waited in line for about 10 minutes and the sale was not crowded at all.
The kids clothes they had were absolutely darling and much more affordable. Everything was $30 so stock up for any little one you know! The jewelry was also all $30 !
I would highly recommend this sale to anyone who shops the brand regularly and are looking for a steal, or if you never have, now is your chance to get some beautiful clothes for an even better price. 8/10!!!

This is the first time that we can remember Milly hosting a sample sale through a venue that isn’t Clothingline. This time the sale took place at Chelsea Market. And that is a definite improvement.
Setup: The sale was extremely organized. Everything was on the correct rack. The prices were clearly marked and were on the rack. Two large public fitting rooms in the back.
Merchandise: the stuff was just nice. There were no items with damages, so no need to inspect every item off the rack. The dresses were cute. The merchandise was much more current than at some previous sales. There were also tables with Schutz shoes (and 2 other brands), which were really cute and affordable – $59 average.
Pricing: Prices were marked on each rack individually, so there was no need to go guessing. The items were reasonable. $19 for cute t-shirts with slogans. Some separates for $49, others for $69. Lots of merchandise and plenty to choose from.
The sale wasn’t packed so one didn’t feel the pressure to hoard or so uncomfortable that one had to leave. Adding this to the ‘sample sales to hit up’ list. Nice sale 7.5/10.
