The Bally Sample Sale was Underwhelming

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Bally Sample Sale was quite disappointing. When I walked into the room I was shocked, not by the merchandise or the prices, but by how COLD it was in that showroom!!! It was absolutely freezing, and they still took everybody’s coats. Every single employee was bundled up in a winter coat, and some were even wearing beanies, but the shoppers were left to freeze.

At this sale, there were hardly any bags or clothes, but a lot of shoes. And thanks to 260, the prices were still a bit high (mainly for the leather goods). Leather outerwear was $800, leather bottoms were $500, and leather shirts were $600. The non-leather goods ranged from $35-$250, and shoes ranged from $75-$200. At this sale, there was a beautiful men’s trench coat that I wanted to purchase for my brother in law. On the tag, the retail price ($1,695) was crossed out and marked down to $137! I was very impressed and ready to buy! But when I brought the coat up to the register the employee informed me that the jacket was actually $250. He explained that the price written on the tag was applied wherever the coat had come from before it was brought to $260. So that means that they actually RAISED the price from the previous sale that the coat was at!!!!! Ridiculous and embarrassing! I advised the employees to white those numbers out because 1. it is very misleading, and 2. just plain ol’ pathetic. Get your s*it together 260!!!!! Overall I rated this sale a 6/10. I’d say sit this one out, especially if you’re hoping to get a cool purse!

Stila, Tocca, & Dr. Jart: a Women’s Beauty Heaven!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Stila, Tocca, and Dr. Jart sample sale was a truly pleasant shopping experience! From the extremely organized table displays to the plethora of different kinds of colors, this sample sale hit the “beauty” jackpot! All of the tables were perfectly categorized by both brand and product. All of the items were laid out nicely and were easy to identify. There were fantastic aesthetics around the room, that lit up the entire space. The sample sale was also not too crowded, which made it enjoyable to shop. It was easy to find a specific brand or product that you are looking for, and the staff was also VERY nice and helpful! There were around 2-3 staff members behind each of the tables, and they were more than happy to answer questions.

Merchandise and pricing: There was A LOT of merchandise. It looked as if all of the products were high in stock, and not going to run out anytime soon. Also, all of the products looked very high in quality, and brand new. From sparkly eye shadow to the best scented candles, this sample sale had it all. As far as pricing goes, everything was reasonably priced. For Artis: the elite smoke collection did not exceed $30, the Brushcraft collection ranged from $9-$14, the Elite Mirror collection ranged from $18-$180, and the Fluenta collection ranged from $20-$225. Dr. Jart prices ranged from $1-$28. Now onto Stila: Their prices ranged from $4 to $15; Sponges were $4, concealer and lip coating $5, liquid lip, eye shadow, and lip coating $8, and the brow pencil $9. Lastly, Tocca had A LOT of candles that smelled terrific. Each candle was $18. Tocca had candle scents such as vanilla jasmine, grapefruit melon, and patchouli amber. Tocca also had a ton of different body creams- they had a few tables that were ONLY for the creams! Tocca also had AMAZING options for holiday gifts, such as a 3-in-one set that had creams and fragrances inside. This set was originally $38, and was now $15. The ONLY negative side about this sale was that it was rather difficult to identify the prices of the products. Not every table had the prices written on them, so that led to a lot of customers having to ask for help. There were signs on the wall that said the categories and prices, but it was still rather hard to identify which product went with what category on the list.

Rating: 9/10. There were a lot of beautiful products, and everything was reasonably priced. They had a variety of great options and even had holiday gifts for both friends and family. It is definitely worth going!

The Veronica Beard Sample Sale is a Total Sh*t Show

By: Jacqueline Munro

After waiting on line for almost two hours outside of the Veronica Beard sample sale today, and then throwing elbows inside for another hour, I am exhausted. I’m gonna save you some reading here and start off with this: WAIT FOR MARKDOWNS.

At this sale, there are tons of gorgeous blazers, suits, skirts, sweaters, dresses, shoes, and accessories. There were some really cute sets as well, but where am I going to wear a matching skirt/blazer set? My mom got two suits and a blazer, but she’s a sucker for Veronica Beard so she wasn’t bothered by the fact that the production pieces were only 70% off retail. In my opinion, that’s just too pricey for this brand. If prices were 80%-90% off, then we’d be talking. But no, and on top of that, the people in this sale were absolutely maddening. They were so rude and aggressive. I’ve never seen people go so crazy over 70% off in my entire life. Sample prices ran from $20-$250 which is what I would have hoped for the production pieces.

Overall, I rated this sale a 5/10. If prices were better and the place wasn’t such a circus I would’ve given it a higher rating. But honestly, I wasn’t expecting anything better from 260. So, ladies, I cannot stress this enough, control yourselves and WAIT. FOR. MARKDOWNS.

The S’well, Nest, and Moleskine Sample Sale is ANYTHING BUT SWELL.

By: Jacqueline Munro

I’ve never seen such a big shi* show in my entire life… Bravo 260, you’ve outdone yourselves! Looking at the line for this sale you would’ve thought they were giving away free diamonds… but sadly, no. Just overpriced candles, water bottles, and notebooks.

By the time I got there, there were hardly any S’well bottles left, and the ones that they did have were not cute. Ther larger bottles were going for $17 and the medium (normal) sized ones were going for $10. In my opinion, that’s how they should be priced in the first place, so I’m not going to praise them for dropping their sample sale prices to those numbers. As for the Moleskine notebooks, there were a ton. They had lots of cute colors and sizes, and some even had cute characters like Batman on them. With that said though, the prices were….. what they should always be? I just can’t imagine paying any more than the sample sale prices for one of those things. And last but not least, Nest. Before I got into the sale there was a man with a megaphone announcing the scents that they had sold out of. It sounded like a lot of the good, non-holiday scents were gone. But I’m not a Nest fanatic so what would I know. There were still a decent amount of candles, diffusers, and perfumes left but the discounts were BLEH!!!!! A follower of ours pointed out that there are currently Nest products on Nordstrom Rack for cheaper!

Overall I rated this sale a 5/10. I can NOT recommend going to this sale. To be honest, I was going to give it a 0/10, but the number of crazed people in the sale made me feel like there had to be something good about it. I just genuinely hope that none of you are foolish enough to wait on line to get in. I only did it because I had to. Good luck, shoppers. You’re going to need it for this sale.

The Paul Smith Sample Sale has Very Limited Options for Women

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Paul Smith sample sale is pretty much just for men. The whole front half of the showroom is filled with men’s clothing and there are about three racks of women’s clothes in the back of the room along one wall. So girls, don’t get your hopes up going to this sale unless you can fit into men’s clothes or you’re buying for your boyfriend/husband.

For the guys, there are tons of sport coats and suit jackets, trousers and jeans, t-shirts and button-downs, and shoes. Prices are a bit high in my opinion, the discounts are mostly about 60%-70% off which is okay, but not amazing. As for the ladies, the best options are the trousers, and the worst are the tops. There were hardly any shirts and the ones that they did have were meh. There were a couple of nice work dresses but they were pricey!

Overall I rated this sale a 6/10. In my opinion, it is just not worth waiting on line for.

The Aquazzura Sample Sale is Ridiculously Over Overpriced

By: Jacqueline Munro

In classic 260 fashion, the Aquazzura sample sale prices are way too high. Prices start at $180 and range all the way up to $485. And while $180 doesn’t sound terrible, the majority of the shoes were between $220 and $275. In my opinion that is just absurd. This is a sample sale people!?? I mean, has that word completely lost its meaning?

Despite the disappointing prices though, the selection of merchandise was quite wonderful. I walked in and felt like I was suddenly swimming in a sea of Aquazzura boxes. Not only was there a nice array of styles, but there were also tons of sizes starting at 34 and going up to 41! I was very pleased with the selection of powder puff shoes. They were stocked with various heel heights and plenty of colors, but I felt like $230 for them was just too much! They also had lots of PVC shoes which are still super in.

Overall I rated this sale a 6.5/10. If you’re an Aquazzura fanatic who always pays full price, you might feel like it is worth it to go. But if you’re someone like me who loves the shoes but can’t afford to pay full price, don’t go because you won’t be able to afford the sample sale prices either!!!!

The Bonpoint Sample Sale is NOT on Point

By: Jacqueline Munro

After attending the Bonpoint sample sale today I left feeling amazed… Amazed by the fact that people are actually willing to pay that much money for baby clothes that will fit for about a month during which they will be covered in poop, pee, and barf! But hey, who doesn’t want to dress their infant in a multi-hundred dollar onesie………..

For such expensive baby/children’s clothes, I would like so see discounts better than 60% off. With that said though, there was an insane amount of inventory including a lot of cute options for boys and girls ranging from one month to 10 years old! There were cashmere leggings with matching sweaters, adorable little collared shirts, lined winter onesies, shearling vests, winter coats, and plenty of other items. You’re going to have to do some work sorting through everything though because all of the clothes are just “folded” in piles on the tables. Pretty much nothing is hung up, which makes sense given that the clothes are so small, but unfortunately it creates a colossal mess. Oh and don’t go if you need to ask someone’s opinion before purchasing because if they see you making a facetime call or taking photos you will be asked to leave. Trust me, they’ll actually do it. I know from experience.

Overall I rated this sale a 5/10. Unless you’ve got a fat wallet and a lot of cash to drop on baby clothes, sit this one out.

I’m saying “Boooo” to the Jimmy Choo Sample Sale

By: Jacqueline Munro

Overall I was not impressed by the Jimmy Choo sample sale. The sale is taking place at 123 West 18th St. in the Metropolitan Pavilion. If you’re having trouble finding it, just look for the insanely long line of people standing on the sidewalk.

At this sale there were TONS of shoes; I was shocked by the amount of merchandise when I walked in. All of the shoes were organized by size. Each size ranging from 34.5-41 had its own section of racks/tables that were overflowing with shoes. The prices for women started at $200 and went up to $375 plus an additional $200 for any exotics. There were lots of pumps and wedges but sadly there were not as many boots/booties, sneakers, or flats. The sneaker selection that they did have was pretty underwhelming and the flats weren’t great either. There were a few hot pairs of booties, though! Additionally, there were lots of sandals, which is quite unfortunate given that were almost in the month of November. But for all of you snow birds out there, this sale is the perfect place to start prepping your s-winter shoe-drobe. In addition to all of the shoes, there was also a small selection of bags ranging from clutches to large totes, and they’re selling fast! The mens section was decent and all shoes were $150 which is great! How come women’s shoes couldn’t be priced like that!?

Overall I rated this sale a 6.5/10. Although there were approximately a gazillion pairs of shoes, a lot of them were outdated and just down-right ugly. The pricing was okay, but not amazing and the line was absurdly long. I’d say go if you’re a huge Jimmy Choo fan, but don’t expect to be wow-ed by anything.

The Rebecca Minkoff Sample Sale has Bags Galore

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Rebecca Minkoff sample sale is currently taking place at 260 sample sale’s 5th avenue location. Personally, I’m not a Rebecca Minkoff fan, and this sale is always super hectic. So I’d advise you all to check out their online sale, which is currently offering up to 75% off retail prices, before succumbing to the misery of 260.

At the Rebecca Minkoff sample sale, there is a s*it ton of bags and a pretty decent shoe selection (but very limited sizing). I recognized a LOT of bags that were at their last sale back in July which means that there was a huge carryover of overstock. In my opinion, that’s really lame; especially given that the last sale was only a few months ago. At least the prices are the same though, there haven’t been any increases. For handbags, sample prices range from $15 – $75 and for production pieces, they range from $50 – $175. For shoes, sample pairs are $30 and production pairs range from $50 – $80. And finally, RTW samples range from $15 – $50 and production pieces range from $30 – $250. Overall I’m not overly impressed by these prices but I’m not super disappointed either.

Overall we rated this sale a 6.5/10. We recommend waiting until the last day for further markdowns, and you don’t have to worry about not being able to find anything at the end because they have a TON of merchandise. Happy shopping!

You can Stop Holding your Breath, the Alexander Wang Sample Sale is Back!

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Alexander Wang sample sale is back and so far it has been *Drumroll Please* INSANE!!!! We were super excited to hear that this sale was open to the public after years of being invite-only, but now all we feel is anxiety!

If you ever make it into this sample sale (the line was 500 people deep at one point) the main issue you’ll come across is the resellers. 260, how on Earth could you let this happen!? We got pictures of hoarders with mile-high piles of bags, clothes, and shoeboxes, and they were grabbing things off the racks so quickly that not even the employees could keep up with them. So even though 260 started off with a ton of back stock, we’re not sure it’ll last until Sunday. Aside from the resellers, the place was a completely disorganized mess. Shoe boxes were everywhere and the staff could barely navigate their way through the clutter. The prices were decent and the merchandise seemed like it was good if you got there first thing this morning, but apparently, all of the bags are already gone, and they are out of lots of sizes in certain shoes.

Overall we rated this sale a 6/10. 260, you really need to get your sh*t together on this one, we had really high hopes. This sale is not for the faint of heart, so unless you’re ready to wait online for three hours, and throw some elbows once you get inside, avoid this sale at all costs.
