Invitation Only – Jimmy Choo Sample Sale Review

By: Amanda Fontana

The Jimmy Choo invitation-only sample sale took place at the Met Pavillion two weeks ago. The enormous showroom was completely filled with a massive stock ranging from women’s shoes, boots, purses, scarves, sunglasses, belts, and even a selection of men’s shoes. Prices started at $50 and ranged to $450, a massive discount considering Jimmy Choo pieces often retail for upwards of $1,000.

Most accessories were one size, but the shoes had a massive range of sizing. There was also a variety in purse sizing as well, so smaller evening purses were much cheaper. Check out the photos to see a small range of all the products!

The sale was exclusive and required a pass to enter, and the line to get in went around the block– even for press. That said, the wait was definitely worth it; the sale was extraordinarily busy, but the products were all amazing and worth browsing through.

The event only lasted for two days– three, if you include VIP early access– so if you’re interested in attending private sales like this one, be sure to RSVP and follow the instructions on the app! They come and go very quickly, and invitations can be hard to come by if you wait too long. The 4 Types of Sample Sales

Jimmy_Choo_Clutches_2

By: Maura McNulty

Before I started working at ShopDrop back in June, my only introduction to sample sales was in the form of plot lines on sitcoms like How I Met Your Mother.  After my first sample sale, I quit my other internship to work with ShopDrop – I was officially a sample sale convert. Since then, I’ve been going to sample sales weekly, both for work and for pleasure. The further down the rabbit hole that I feel, the more I noticed the diversity of the underground phenomenon that is sample sales. So, in an effort to better capture the variability of sample sales, I present to you the four types of sample sales.

  1. The ConcertJimmy_Choo_PumpsI could never understand that fans posses when it came to meeting their favorite artists, at least until I went to I went to my first Alexander McQueen sale. 100 people and blistering temperatures could not interfere with me being able to hold a McQueen item, let alone being able to buy one at an affordable price. The energy inside is intense, the deals are crazy, and every purchasing decision feels like life or death. These sales are totally worth it if owning a pair of Jimmy Choos is on your to-do list, and unlike actual concerts, you get to bring home the thing you waited for. Just make sure to get a good night of rest before, and wear comfy shoes; you’re going to need it.

2. The Low-KeyDreams On Air Sample Sale

The rockstar-brands of the fashion world are not the only ones to hold sample sales, typically held in office spaces, sales from smaller brands are extremely beneficial to go to. The low-key sales I’ve gone to have yielded the most affordable prices, provide a great introduction to a new brand, and give you the opportunity to meet and converse with the people who make the clothes you buy.

3. The Multibrand
multibrand

Multibrand sales can be a mixed bag; typically, they’re held to get rid of a variety of items that didn’t sell as well as they would have hoped. In my experience, if there isn’t a clear theme with among the brands at the sale, or the prices are too high, it can feel a little chaotic and confusing. But, if you’re looking to browse, these sales have the most diverse range of items.

4. The Too Good to be True Sale

There is one qualification to fall under this category; amazing pieces, with prices that are shockingly low. Etienne Aigner and NYCharisma we’re perfect examples of the hidden gems that can be found at sample sales; both sales had a collection of hand-picked pieces, with astounding customer service and ridiculously low prices.
