Calling oneself a true fashionista means more than knowing that mules are newly in style and funky, thin framed sunglasses are sticking around for the rest of summer 2017. The majority of fashion lovers in NYC who call themselves “experts,” don’t really know where these iconic designers are even from. She married a con-man in France, worked as a nanny in England, and was featured in Vogue in 1927 for one of her first designs. However, Schiaparelli was one of the only major fashion houses to achieve a revival. Her influence is still felt in the industry today, with many designers and artists are still inspired by Schiaparelli’s reality-warping designs. Elsa Schiaparelli deserves more than the occasional nod from the industry; while others were sewing and sketching, Schiaparelli was defying fashion with an artistic ingenuity that was never before seen by the fashion world.
