The (Not So) Clever Alice Sale

By: Eve Orbach

When one of the first things you hear upon entering a sale is “the golden rule is to NOT trust the sizing”, you know you’re not off to a great start. The Clever Alice pop up features multiple brands such as Stellah, PORTO, Vivienne Hu, Inizio, Raw Earth Wild Sky, and more at discounts of up to 80%. Featured items include sweaters, skirts, tops, dresses, jackets, and bags. The prices really varied by item and brand, but as a whole I would say the deals were simply 😐.

The sale is organized by brand and clothing item. Every piece is hung up neatly on hangers. The staff is super helpful to the point where I literally didn’t have to carry any item for more than .2 seconds, when it would then kindly be whisked away to the fitting room. The fitting room does not have a mirror inside, so every time I tried something on I had to go out and do a little fashion show in front of every person in the store. (There were definitely a few not too approving looks given to me by some of the other customers, lol. To each their own, guys!)

There honestly is nothing too notable about this one. If you’re in the area it may be worth popping by because they have some good pieces. Overall though the issues with the sizing were pretty frustrating and the deals were by and large underwhelming. Hopefully once the sample sale season kicks back up again there will be bigger and better ones to come!

BS Stands for Belgian Shoes

By: Eve Orbach

To put it lightly, the Belgian Shoes sale was overpriced and a waste of time. After an already disappointing discount of just 50%, you think the good people of Belgian Shoes would try a little harder to make their sale worth attending. But alas, I waited on line for almost an hour… that’s right folks… almost an hour. I do not understand what type of person could rationalize the decision to wait that amount of time for LOAFERS that were $200+, but the world is really filled with some interesting people.

Belgian Shoes is the type of company that sells “crests” on their website. As astutely pointed out by one of our loyal followers, the majority of people attending the sale “looked like attorneys”. The type of customer there is the person who loves to complain about how busy their work life is, and then continue to suffer an ungodly waiting period to buy shoes…for work. Seriously, everyone around me was wearing loafers. If everyone on line protested and just made their own sale of the shoes they were already wearing they would have had many better styles, price points, and a bigger stock. Inside there really wasn’t that many options to chose from, and the space was off putting and honestly smelled like an old age home.

This whole experience was pretty bizarre. I decided to give this sale a 1/10 because I knew that I was going to say some pretty harsh things in this review and giving them that extra 1 point made me feel better. Please, do yourself a favor and skip this one! Legit— still reeling from the whole experience. I feel like I was punked.

Adam Selman, Simon Miller, Nili Lotan- ALL IN ONE!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: This sample sale was composed of THREE different brands- Adam Selman, Simon Miller, and Nili Lotan. The room’s set up was very neat organized, and was categorized by brand. There were a ton of different sections, where it was fairly easy to find the item you are looking for. All of the merchandise was hung aesthetically, and it was quite a pleasant shopping experience.

Merchandise/pricing: Nili Lotan’s merchandise still remained expensive- the prices ranged from $50-$495. Nili Lotan had the most merchandise out of all of the brands there. They had gorgeous pieces, from lux cashmere sweaters to leather jackets. Despite all of their beautiful options, I believe that it is considered still not affordable/ worth it to purchase a dress for $195 (at a sample sale)! Next up was Adam Selman- the prices were great and ranged from $25-$60. They had excellent prices, an abundance of work out clothing, sports-bras, and leggings– This brand reminded me exactly of Bandier’s sale last week. I believe that Adam Selman’s sale was the highlight of this sample sale out of all three brands! Lastly for Simon Miller- the prices ranged from $45-$295. (I thought it remained a bit pricey for shirts to still be $75.) The brand had a ton of t-shirts, bags, and tops, for all under $80; the t-shirts were the best deal for this brand.

Rate: 7/10 Lots of options, good amount of merchandise, great accessories, and very organized.

Christian SiriaNO….No…Just No…..

One moment while I barf before I write this…. Christian Siriano we are NOT friends!!! Let’s start with RUDE staff, always a minus in my books. Also aluminum foil for dresses at prices I don’t ever want to see at a sample sale— I think not. Let’s have this conversation…. if you’re looking for evening you probably passed through this sale and may have scored something because some of us are lucky enough to find the unicorns in the bunch. For the most part the sale was a skip with disappointing prices, a hot mess, unorganized racks, rude staff… and all the way uptown. Meh. I vote Skip! 5 W 54th Street going on until Friday.

Zadig & Voltaire? More like Overpriced, Beware!

By: Eve Orbach

Parisian luxury brand Zadig & Voltaire’s sale features many cool pieces for both men and women, but the reductions aren’t that great for a sample sale. Since this one is being hosted by 260, as per usual you’re better off waiting for their last-day price markdowns.

The t-shirts ($30), sweatshirts ($60), and denim ($60-$75) are the best deals of the sale. Leather jackets, blazers, shearling, and various other outerwear are priced from $150-$550.

This one is all the way up at 2151 Broadway. Maybe it’s worth stopping by if you’re in the area but I would definitely not recommend trekking too far for this one.

The sale is split into a women’s and men’s section. Clothes are neatly organized by item. There is a wide range of sizes for the pieces, which are all edgy and trendy.

The lines for checkout was really long when I was there, so proceed with caution.

I give this sale a 6/10. There’s a great accessories section and some cool options. This is a sale that requires a keen eye and a little bit of effort, but you might be able to walk away with a stand-out piece.

Come on Eileen… to the Eileen Fisher Sale!!!

By: Eve Orbach

The Eileen Fisher sale at 260 Wooster has crazy markdowns, lots of stock, and great pieces. Most items fall in the $20-$40 range. Jackets are the highest priced item and are just $70! Also available are women’s tops, sweaters, cardigans, pants, skirts, accessories, and more.

Attached below is the complete price list. My favorite steals are the sweaters for $40 (compared to the usual $200/$300+on the Eileen Fisher website) and the pants for $30 (versus the typical $200+ ones also being sold on the company’s website).

Everything is hung up neatly on hangers and organized by item. The sale is spacious and easy to shop in. One downside of the sale is that every single sweater I picked up, and trust me— I picked up a LOT— were all a size small. However, the sizing for the rest of the items is much more varied.

There is a wide range of styles and patterns for all of the items being sold. There are items for everyone. Merchandise came in both chic, understated styles as well as colorful, spunky ones.

A solid winter accessories section is also a notable highlight— hats and scarves are going for $20.

Cash and credit cards accepted. All items sold as is, and all sales are final.

I give this sale an 8/10 for having killer deals and lots of items. I really recommend hitting this one up at some point. It might be worth it to use some restraint though because 260 always ends up slashing prices even further towards the end of their sales.

ELEVENty sample sale: you can find even more than ELEVEN pieces here!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Eleventy sample sale had A TON of clothing for both men and women, at amazing prices. For starters, the space was fairly large and not crowded, which made the shopping experience enjoyable. The staff was also extremely sweet and very helpful. The room was divided between the men and women, and each side had endless amounts of options and sizes. For the women, there were very cute and warm sweaters, jackets, pants, dresses, bags, shoes and scarves. For the men, there were A LOT of suits, dress shirts, jackets, belts, ties, and shoes. Everything was set up so organized, and it was very easy to shop and find what you are looking for.

Merchandise/ pricing: The pricing went as follows: accessories went from around $25-$89, shirts/ pants/ shoes were $109, and coats $199-$499. Everything was reasonably priced, and the clothing looked in excellent shape. I noticed that there were more shoes and coats options for the men, but more sweaters and pants for the women. There were a lot of different sizes and multiples of each item. There were great puffers and coats for the winter, and very warm sweaters as well. It did not look as if the sale was going to run out of any merchandise anytime soon!

Rate: 8/10 A LOT of great finds, sweet staff, fun environment, and a ton of accessories for the winter.

Rosie Assoulin: 75% off, yet still too expensive

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Rosie Assoulin sample sale was very expensive, and therefore not worth a trip. They had gorgeous pieces, but still not affordable. There were casual beach dresses that were now $395- at first glance I thought I had accidentally mistaken it for the original retail price…not the sample sale price! The sale had a lot of merchandise. There were a ton of racks filled with clothing, and everything was very organized (there were multiple pieces and sizes of each item). The sale had a small and messy table in the back that was filled with bags; The bags looked as if they were made of straw and would fall apart the next day.

Merchandise/ pricing: The space had different racks throughout the room that were labeled $195, $295, $395, $495+. There were 3 hats left, and 10-15 bags left ($175 each). I saw really pretty blue high low dresses, and a ton of plaid dresses as well. The plaid dresses were great because they had a dual purpose: they could be cute for work and for dinner afterwards (plaid dresses were $295). Rosie Assoulin sample sale had a ton of stripes throughout the strore; there were striped dresses, stripped shirts, and stripped pants. There was a table in the middle of the room with a lot of “I love NY” hoodies which looked both comfortable and cozy. In terms of accessories, there were a bunch of shoes left (went from around $100-$195)- in shades blue, red, nude, and black.

Rate: 4/10 Great pieces, but too expensive and just simply not worth it.

Make it to MACKAGE

By: Eve Orbach

Hello loyal readers! Now this is one I’m sure we were all very excited for: the MACKAGE sale is finally here!

MACKAGE has coats, accessories, and clothing for all. The markdowns for each item vary but overall there are definitely some good deals and steals. Coats are available for women, men, and children come in a wide range of styles from bomber jackets to winter puffers. Accessories include wallets, bags, scarves, gloves, hats, and vests. MACKAGE dresses, pants, shorts, and skirts, are available in addition to SOIA & KYO blazers, cardigans, jackets, and accessories.

The best deals of the sale are definitely the accessories. Wallets start at $10, scarves and hats $40, and bags are going for $70. As for coats, price vary per item but there are some jackets that fell below the $200 price range! (But many, many, MANY, more that surpass $200) For a designer brand, I thought that the clothing was pretty well priced—dresses could be found for $160, pants for $100, and tops for $100. The SOIA & KYO pieces were generally on the pricier side but had still has some affordable priced accessories.

It is organized by gender and style and is hung up neatly on hangers. The people working the sale are very helpful and outgoing.

All sales are final. Cash and credit card accepted.

I give this sale a 6/10. All of the pieces are very fashionable, but for a sample sale I was not very impressed with the prices. However, the accessories were definitely on the more reasonable side and there are even some coats that aren’t priced too high.

Finding outerwear for the winter can be a struggle, but in this case head over to the MACKAGE sample sale to try your luck at finding a warm, reliable, go-to winter coat!

IPPOLITA is Irresistible

By: Eve Orbach

Necklaces and bracelets and rings, oh my! The gorgeous Italian jewelry company IPPOLITA is hosting a sample sale where pieces are being sold for up to 75% off of retail price. All of the jewelry being sold was super luxe and the quality was absolute perfection. There were plenty of gold and silver options to choose from. Many of the pieces included diamonds, pearls, and semi-precious stones. The gold used was 18k and the silver was 100% pure— so while the jewelry might be an investment piece it will last you for many years to come! At a markdown so significant, this sale was more than worth checking out.

There was a wide variety of styles available. IPPOLITA had everything from fun cocktail rings to simple everyday studs. The room at Soiffer Haskin and the stock were both HUGE, but since each customer got their own (super friendly and helpful) sales associate the sale was a pleasure to shop in— so I will definitely count the fact that there were just so many options as a giant plus.

Credit cards only. All sales are final.

If you’re in the market for a very special piece of jewelry that will last a lifetime, go to this sale! There were options for every style and price point. Happy shopping!
