The Christian Louboutin Sale was Cute but Costly

By: Eve Orbach

This invite-only Louboutin sale had really beautiful items but prices were still high. Most of the shoes fell along the $300-$400 range. The shoes came in all different styles (booties, HEELS 😍😍😍, flats, etc.) and sizes. Bag straps and perfumes were also available for sale.

At around a 40% discount, the prices were definitely at a significant markdown. If you were in the market for a pair of Louboutins the sale just might be worth to go, but you can honestly find similar priced ones on websites like Poshmark and The RealReal.

The merchandise was organized by size. All of the shoes were still in their boxes and the boxes were stacked from floor to ceiling. Most of the boxes had pictures of the shoes on them, so it wasn’t too hard to navigate. The staff was helpful. All of the shoppers were running around so frantically that observing them was a notable highlight of being there.

The sale was invite only. Even with an invitation, there was still a line.

I give this sale a 6/10 for having such amazing stuff. However, even with the 100% drool-worthy shoes, I wouldn’t recommend trying to weasel your way in without an invitation. You’re better off finding similar deals online instead.

The SAMple Sale was Simply OK

By: Eve Orbach

The Sam. Sample sale had great winter coats but at a discount of approximately 50% to 60%, better discounts can be found elsewhere. Simply put, this sale was underwhelming. Women’s coats were the most heavily featured item, but there were styles for men and children as well. Overall the price markdowns were significant, but paying upwards of $200-$300 at a sale is definitely not what I would call a great steal. If you are in the market for a new winter coat then this might be worth attending, but don’t go in with high expectations. (I tried to get a new coat because my four year old horrible purple coat is stain-ridden, but alas— I was unsuccessful.)

There was a good range of sizes, colors, and styles available. There were long lines to enter, and unless you are on the sale’s guest list you might end up waiting over 20 minutes in the cold just to get a jacket (kind of ironic, no?).

The coats were hung up neatly on hangers. There was a women’s section, men’s section, and children’s section all organized by style.

All sales are final. Cash and major credit cards are accepted. The opening times for each day vary; be sure to check the picture below to get there on time.

I gave this sale a 4/10. The long lines and high prices made this sale a bust.

GREAT finds at the Nanette Lepore sample sale

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Nanette Lepore sample sale was categorized by year of merchandise: current, past seasons and true samples. Right at the entrance of the space there was a neat rack filled of sample items. In the next room, there were 3-4 racks filled with current stock. Everything was organized by color and size. It was relatively easy to find what you were looking for. There was a table in the corner of the room that had sweaters on it as well. There was also a small section in the room that had past season stuff, albeit only one rack. There were also multiple fitting rooms to try on the clothing, which trust me, at a sample sale, is a luxury!

Merchandise/ pricing: The pricing for the Nanette Lepore sample sale : New items: jackets $195, dresses $150, tops $95-$125, pants $100, skirts $95, and sweaters $65, Old stock – jackets $95, dresses $85, tops $65, pants $50, skirts $50, sweaters $40. Samples – coats $85, jackets $65, tops $40, dresses $65, pants/ skirts $30, and sweaters $40.

The samples were very close to production items in quality so it was very similar to buying actual stock items but for half the price. There were many different colored sweaters, many gorgeous long and short dresses for work and fancy occasions, and a lot of nice shirts. There were also many blazers and coats that are perfect for this time of year. A few gowns on the racks and that’s pretty much it!

Rate: 8.5/10 GREAT prices, gorgeous clothing, endless sizes, and a ton in stock!

Set up: Generation Love’s setup was extremely organized, and all of the racks were categorized by item. Plenty of jackets, coats, dresses, shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, and t-shirts. The space was large, so it was easy to shop in and find everything that you are looking for. There was a children’s section in the front, and there were a lot of options to choose from. Unsweetened New York was set up in the back of the room, and the pricing was awesome. Very sweet and helpful staff as well.

A Theory Regarding the Theory Sale—It’s Meh

This Theory sale was so average that it’s hard for me to find a word to describe it. When I heard that Theory was offering items up to 70% off I was intrigued, but when I got to the sale I thought the prices were too high and the items too boring for me to justify it. Items available at the sale were shirts, sweaters, dresses, jackets (both men’s and women’s), scarves, and hats (and a few pairs of shoes).

Although this sale was kind of underwhelming, I will give props to how well-organized it was. With a wide variety of styles and sizes, everything was hung up neatly on hangers. Men’s on one side, women’s on the other. (260, take note) One thing that I really liked about the room (OCD, much?) was that items and racks were separated by category and price (ie women’s sweaters for $109, men’s outerwear for $299)— this made everything easy to navigate.

The pieces were mostly solid colors and veered on the side of dressy(ish)— in short, if you’re going on an interview, hit this up.

While the prices were notably discounted, for a sample sale they weren’t that great.

I give this sale a 6/10. The pieces were nice but pretty expensive. This sale would definitely appeal to someone who is a big Theory fan. If you don’t have any particular fondness for the brand, though, it’s just slightly above “okay”.

The AV Max Sale Lived Up to Max-imum Expectations

By: Eve Orbach

This AV Max sale was great!! There was a large selection and variety of jewelry at low prices. Prices ranged from $5-$25, while full-priced items on the website go for about $20—$70. Featured were rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings in both gold and silver finishes. Because of the price point, the jewelry is made with mixed metals instead of 100% gold or silver. The pieces ranged from super minimalist everyday styles to more funky fashion jewelry.

The sale was very easy to shop in. Most tables were organized by price and item (ie rings for $5, hoops for $5, etc). The sale venue was small but cozy, and it’s the same place where they keep their materials. This turned out to be a cool feature because they had people crafting the jewelry while we were shopping. The staff working the sale were really friendly and kind. There was Christmas music playing, everyone was chatting with each other and to top it all off there were free mimosas offered!

I give this sale a 10/10. If you’re looking for fun fashion jewelry at low prices then this is the sale for you. Also, because we’re in the holiday season, it’s worth mentioning that you will definitely get some people checked off of your gift list!

PSA: this jewelry would make adorable stocking stuffers.

For the women, there were boxes of scarves, gloves, hats, sweaters, sweatshirts, and robes. Everything was organized in the boxes, and looked brand new. The Barbour Sample Sale was the Place to be

By: Jacqueline Munro

The first-ever Barbour sample sale took place today in their showroom on West 57th, and boy was it a success. The line was two hours long at 11 am; the employees were giving people tickets telling them to come back later in the evening after they restocked. But by 3:00 they had already run out of merchandise to restock with.

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of wax coats that they still had left for men around 4 pm, but there were none left for women. Most of them were in the mid $100s, a little more than 50% off. They also had shirts, sweaters, and other kinds of jackets and coats ranging from $87-$455. For women, most of the styles that I saw were either raincoats or short quilted jackets. They were priced in the mid $100s. There was also a small selection of shirts and sweaters, but nothing that really impressed me. As far as sizing goes, all of the men’s coats were mediums, and the women’s coats seemed like they were all about a s/m. All of the staff members at this sale were super friendly and efficient; I was impressed considering that they were first-timers!

Overall I rated this sale a 6/10. I wish that they had more of a size range and a larger amount of back stock, but overall it was a success.
