BS Stands for Belgian Shoes

By: Eve Orbach

To put it lightly, the Belgian Shoes sale was overpriced and a waste of time. After an already disappointing discount of just 50%, you think the good people of Belgian Shoes would try a little harder to make their sale worth attending. But alas, I waited on line for almost an hour… that’s right folks… almost an hour. I do not understand what type of person could rationalize the decision to wait that amount of time for LOAFERS that were $200+, but the world is really filled with some interesting people.

Belgian Shoes is the type of company that sells “crests” on their website. As astutely pointed out by one of our loyal followers, the majority of people attending the sale “looked like attorneys”. The type of customer there is the person who loves to complain about how busy their work life is, and then continue to suffer an ungodly waiting period to buy shoes…for work. Seriously, everyone around me was wearing loafers. If everyone on line protested and just made their own sale of the shoes they were already wearing they would have had many better styles, price points, and a bigger stock. Inside there really wasn’t that many options to chose from, and the space was off putting and honestly smelled like an old age home.

This whole experience was pretty bizarre. I decided to give this sale a 1/10 because I knew that I was going to say some pretty harsh things in this review and giving them that extra 1 point made me feel better. Please, do yourself a favor and skip this one! Legit— still reeling from the whole experience. I feel like I was punked.

Christian SiriaNO….No…Just No…..

One moment while I barf before I write this…. Christian Siriano we are NOT friends!!! Let’s start with RUDE staff, always a minus in my books. Also aluminum foil for dresses at prices I don’t ever want to see at a sample sale— I think not. Let’s have this conversation…. if you’re looking for evening you probably passed through this sale and may have scored something because some of us are lucky enough to find the unicorns in the bunch. For the most part the sale was a skip with disappointing prices, a hot mess, unorganized racks, rude staff… and all the way uptown. Meh. I vote Skip! 5 W 54th Street going on until Friday.

ELEVENty sample sale: you can find even more than ELEVEN pieces here!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Eleventy sample sale had A TON of clothing for both men and women, at amazing prices. For starters, the space was fairly large and not crowded, which made the shopping experience enjoyable. The staff was also extremely sweet and very helpful. The room was divided between the men and women, and each side had endless amounts of options and sizes. For the women, there were very cute and warm sweaters, jackets, pants, dresses, bags, shoes and scarves. For the men, there were A LOT of suits, dress shirts, jackets, belts, ties, and shoes. Everything was set up so organized, and it was very easy to shop and find what you are looking for.

Merchandise/ pricing: The pricing went as follows: accessories went from around $25-$89, shirts/ pants/ shoes were $109, and coats $199-$499. Everything was reasonably priced, and the clothing looked in excellent shape. I noticed that there were more shoes and coats options for the men, but more sweaters and pants for the women. There were a lot of different sizes and multiples of each item. There were great puffers and coats for the winter, and very warm sweaters as well. It did not look as if the sale was going to run out of any merchandise anytime soon!

Low prices at the Vera Bradley sample sale

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Vera Bradley sample sale had excellent prices for great pieces. The room was divided in half between the men and women, and the racks were categorized by item. The room was on the smaller side, but it had very few customers. All of the merchandise was very organized, but there were some boxes filled with underwear and bras that was quite messy. The staff was sweet and helpful, and it was a pleasant shopping experience.

Merchandise/ pricing: Most of the items at this sale were around $15- WOW! They had great everyday t-shirts, pants, and sweatshirts. There were a ton of loungewear for both the women and men. All of the pieces looked in great shape and quality. I noticed that there were more pajama options than clothing for ‘out of the house.’ There were a ton of boxers, bras, and robes. Everything was high in stock, and there were multiple sizes and color options. I was surprised that there were no accessories- not even one of the famous Vera Bradley bags!

Rate: 8/10 Amazing deals and great finds.

You Need to go to the Jonathan Simkhai Sale!!

By: Eve Orbach

Guys, seriously, Get. There. ASAP! As soon as you finish reading this— heck, go right now, while you read this. (just make sure to look both ways before crossing 😉 The Jonathan Simkhai sample sale was a total hit! Jonathan Simkhai is famous for making beautiful, detailed dresses and at this sale there were many great ones to choose from. Styles of dresses ranged from casual everyday pieces to stunning floor length gowns. Many of the dresses were $195, which is a great deal for a couture dress. I even was able to find an adorable summery number for just $85. The prices of the gowns varied, but there were so many stunning ones.

Women’s dresses, sweaters, denim, pants, jackets, and tops were arranged by size and category. It was very well organized and that made it a pleasure to shop at. There was also a wide variety of items available for children ranging from infants up to teenagers.

Some of the best deals include jeans for $65, sweaters for $50, swimwear for $20, and children’s t-shirts for $25.

There were no lines to get in. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Cash and credit cards accepted. All sales are final.

I give this sale a 9/10! There were plenty of styles and categories of items available. I left the sale with some great items that I can’t wait to wear. (Another fun bonus of the sale— there were Kenzo items for children and teens. I was even able to get some holiday presents for my younger siblings. $20 for a Kenzo hat? Unreal!)

What: Jonathan Simkhai sale!                                                                                                                                         When: 450 W 14th Street, Meatpacking District                                                                                                          Where: December 11-15, 2019

Lots to buy at the Alice and Olivia sample sale

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Alice and Olivia sample sale set up was organized well; most of the items were categorized by both size and item. There were racks labeled with all of the sizes which made it very easy to shop. There were also racks that were categorized by item: coats (blazers, fur, etc.), gowns, short dresses, jeans, and skirts. The entire set up was very neat and orderly. There were many customers shopping, and it looked as if items were selling out fast. All of the shoe sections were organized. Everything was laid out nicely. There were a few tables of bags, glasses, and scarves. Except for the sample rack, where people were fighting for their lives, everything was organized and relatively easy to get to.

Merchandise/pricing: The prices at the Alice & Olivia sample sale were discounted but not enough for my liking: all clothing items (not including the samples) were $39-$309, sample items $29-$129, accessories $29-$149, and shoes $69-$169. For example, a dress that retailed for $440 was now $199, pants were down from $995 to $289, and a teddy coat that once cost $550 was now selling for $269. There were many different colors of coats- both fur and regular. There were fur coats in bright colors (hot pink and rainbow variations.) We spotted many pairs of jeans and fancy pants, short and long skirts, long sleeved tops and sweaters, short and long dresses, shoes and accessories. There were a lot of shoes: booties, tall boots, low boots, and heels. There were many pairs of sunglasses, scarves, bags, and tots. There were also 6 different pairs of glasses to choose from: shades brown, clear, black, and white!

This sample sale has a lot of merchandise & it’s going fast! There was a line out the door hours before opening…

Rate: 9/10 AMAZING pieces, endless options, beautiful gowns, and warm coats! Alice and Olivia is a great sample sale although a bit pricey, and is definitely worth going to.

A Theory Regarding the Theory Sale—It’s Meh

This Theory sale was so average that it’s hard for me to find a word to describe it. When I heard that Theory was offering items up to 70% off I was intrigued, but when I got to the sale I thought the prices were too high and the items too boring for me to justify it. Items available at the sale were shirts, sweaters, dresses, jackets (both men’s and women’s), scarves, and hats (and a few pairs of shoes).

Although this sale was kind of underwhelming, I will give props to how well-organized it was. With a wide variety of styles and sizes, everything was hung up neatly on hangers. Men’s on one side, women’s on the other. (260, take note) One thing that I really liked about the room (OCD, much?) was that items and racks were separated by category and price (ie women’s sweaters for $109, men’s outerwear for $299)— this made everything easy to navigate.

The pieces were mostly solid colors and veered on the side of dressy(ish)— in short, if you’re going on an interview, hit this up.

While the prices were notably discounted, for a sample sale they weren’t that great.

I give this sale a 6/10. The pieces were nice but pretty expensive. This sale would definitely appeal to someone who is a big Theory fan. If you don’t have any particular fondness for the brand, though, it’s just slightly above “okay”.

The Bally Sample Sale was Underwhelming

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Bally Sample Sale was quite disappointing. When I walked into the room I was shocked, not by the merchandise or the prices, but by how COLD it was in that showroom!!! It was absolutely freezing, and they still took everybody’s coats. Every single employee was bundled up in a winter coat, and some were even wearing beanies, but the shoppers were left to freeze.

At this sale, there were hardly any bags or clothes, but a lot of shoes. And thanks to 260, the prices were still a bit high (mainly for the leather goods). Leather outerwear was $800, leather bottoms were $500, and leather shirts were $600. The non-leather goods ranged from $35-$250, and shoes ranged from $75-$200. At this sale, there was a beautiful men’s trench coat that I wanted to purchase for my brother in law. On the tag, the retail price ($1,695) was crossed out and marked down to $137! I was very impressed and ready to buy! But when I brought the coat up to the register the employee informed me that the jacket was actually $250. He explained that the price written on the tag was applied wherever the coat had come from before it was brought to $260. So that means that they actually RAISED the price from the previous sale that the coat was at!!!!! Ridiculous and embarrassing! I advised the employees to white those numbers out because 1. it is very misleading, and 2. just plain ol’ pathetic. Get your s*it together 260!!!!! Overall I rated this sale a 6/10. I’d say sit this one out, especially if you’re hoping to get a cool purse!

Great Shape Wear at the Wolford Sample Sale

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Wolford sample sale’s set up was very organized, and it was easy to find exactly what you are looking for. The room had racks alongside the walls, which were categorized by item and shade. There was one section along the wall, that was specifically bodysuits, thin pullovers, thin tops, and string bodysuits. All of those were packaged in small boxes already. That section categorized each small box by size, and it was easy to find your size as well. There was one rack that was dedicated to embellished bodysuits, dresses, and long sleeved shirts. The rack was very organized and had multiple sizes for each item. There was another rack that was mainly just pants and skirts. The merchandise was in color-coated order, which made it easy to find specific items/colors. There were also two boxes of bras, but they were all just thrown in; the sizing was all tossed in together, so people had to search throughout in order to find their size. There was also a large section of tights- both embellished and plain. There were a lot of great colors for the winter and holidays as well.

Merchandise/ pricing: Wolford’s prices were as follows: bodysuits $60, dresses $75, embellished dresses $125, knitwear $80, pants $75, skirts $40, vegan skirts $75, tanks $45, tops $75, waves camo $15, and cotton skirt $15 (The prices remained a bit high). They had a lot of great merchandise and did not look like they were running out anytime soon. The only negative attribute about this sale was that the cotton skirts and some other merchandise were very creased and looked worn out. Wolford had a lot of amazing quality items as well; there were a bunch of gorgeous dresses that had detailed embellishments. There were fancy pants and casual pants- The pants were in mostly just dark shades. There were also a LOT of colorful tights and plain ones as well. There was a whole corner of the room that was dedicated to just tights! The tights were in a lot of available sizes, and were perfectly labeled to make it easy to find your specific size.

Rate: 6/10 The prices were still pretty high, and some of the items were creased. They had a lot of great items, and it is worth it to go if you need shape-wear, dresses, or pants!
