Y-7 Warehouse Sample Sale

By: Nanda Rai

Y-7 Sample Sale

The real real review #details

Y-7’s first ever warehouse sale? I couldn’t believe it either, because it was executed to perfection! You can visit the Y-7 warehouse sample sale located at the original Hip-Hop Yoga Studio (Y7 HQ, 262 Bowery, 4th Floor, NY, NY) starting today Tuesday August 15th- Wednesday August 16th; and trust me when I say this, you feel the “namast-ay fly” aesthetic as soon as you walk in. Need I mention their too-good-to-be-true negotiation with the weather? I mean, the temptation to purchase a sweater on a rainy day like today from a vast selection of all-black comfy Y-7 sweatshirts/hoodies with trendy slogan designs?! Y-7 for the win!

But, lets back it up a bit, trekking 4 stair flights up to the warehouse; Y-7 definitely knows its customers, getting everyone to kick a sweat before the goods and glory sales. Ice-cold tea samples (RUNA) served right before the race to the racks is most definitely a well-thought-out refresher of choice, another check for Y-7. As you head inside, the atmosphere gets you bumping and flowing to the most popular genre of music in the U.S right now, Hip-Hop!! Yep, its pretty damn ideal.

I walked in with a mission, to get all the information on site on behalf of the ShopDrop team, and completely got distracted when I saw this Kanye sweater “inspo.” It was Kanye West in pretzel position, hell yeah!! Y-7 is definitely onto something, unique and genius! Lucky for me, there was only 1 small left, so I dropped everything and called grabs! Don’t worry,  I took tons of pictures, just for you to see! I mean 40% off today? 50% off tomorrow? I couldn’t resist.

For the rest of the apparel, sizes range from XS-XL in most styles including the hoodies/sweatshirts/tour-style t-shirts, sweats, leggings and sports bras. The prices have taken a steep downfall from $250 retail to $16 or less in apparel and accessories (headbands, face towels, bookbags, candles, phone cases, beanie hats, pins). ShopDrop has you covered ! You definitely want to yoga, sleep, study, eat, netflix in this gear!

Musings about Miista from Lexi

Last week I boarded the downtown A train feeling comfy and confident in a soft blue shift dress I purchased from Old Navy for the ridiculous price of $8. I always receive compliments on the dress due to its functional combo of both comfort and class. Whenever people ask where I purchased I, they’re usually pretty surprised with the answer.

When I stepped out off of the subway, the bounce in my step imitated that of a deflated beach ball, as I acknowledged my dress, on another girl, walking into the same building that I was. Well, so much for that…

Sample Sale Review: Multi-Designer at Katya Dobryakova

Katya Dobryakova at the Multi-Designer Sample Sale in NY

Descending to the basement of the Katya Dobryakova store on Broome street, we were greeted by a large room, which held the multi-designer sample sale. One thing united all the stands: each one had one-of-a-kind merchandise.

ARIANA BOUSSARD-REIFEL

Marteau Jewelry Multi-Designer Sample Sale NY
Marteau Jewelry Multi-Designer Sample Sale NY

We first chatted with Ariana Boussard-Reifel, who designed the bangles Beyonce wore to the Grammys. Aside from being extremely friendly, her jewelry is stunning! She sells bangles, earrings and rings all made out of metal. Each item is raw and sharp in its design. I couldn’t help myself and bought a pair of gorgeous silver earrings: long oval hoops that instantly made me feel extremely dressed up. All of her items were sold at a steep 80% discount! Yes, that means that items which typically sell for $500 were now selling for $125.

KATYA DOBRYAKOVA

Katya Dobryakova Sweatshirt

After that we headed to the podium at the back of the showroom, where we discovered the most stunning collection of designer sweatshirts. We had the opportunity to chat with the founder and designer, Katya Dobryakova, about her brand. Unlike most designers, Katya didn’t start her career in  fashion, rather, she started in graphic design. Her dream was to transplant the detail of graphics into clothing. And her brand is exactly that. This year’s collection is themed around the circus and her sweatshirts have the most exquisite circus-themed designs. They are all machine-washable, easy to take care of and create a gorgeous effortless look. At the sample sale, they were sold at an 80% discount. So at $100, they were a steal. If you have the time to get to Broome street, do it. You will have no regrets.

MARTEAU

For the vintage lovers out there, Marteau was selling some awesome pieces from the 40s in America, Ethiopia and the Middle East. From beads to pearls to knits, there are items for every taste and every budget. There are awesome finds for $25 dollars each! In addition to those designers, there were other items from Alyssa Less, KZ_K, Meredith Marks, Les Savage, Raul Penaranda.

We Dressed it up at the Derek Lam Sample Sale

By: Liza Sakhaie

Naturally, we don’t all have time to go to every sample sale in the game, forcing us to prioritize our favorites. As a business student, I sometimes find myself weighing the pros and cons of each sale. But considering the fact that on average, Derek Lam’s pieces cost $1000, the choice was simple. I knew I had to seize the opportunity to get my hands on the American designer’s sensible and detailed collection.

When I walked into Clothing Line, the sample sale host, I realized that my experience might be a little thrifty—I was definitely going to have to hunt to find the best items, especially since I only managed to make it there on the final day. After tossing aside some super baggy sweaters (originally $1400!!) and making it past the more matronly pieces of the collection, I came across this gem— (Score!!)

Derek Lam Sample Sale

Lam upgraded the classic statement white blazer with a splatter paint detailing, making it easy to pair with both white and black trousers. I quickly found a pair of wide leg black suit pants to match, creating the perfect outfit to stand out at work or any event. The total cost of the outfit originally came out to almost $3,000 ($2000 for the jacket alone) but I got it for almost 70% off! Thank goodness for ShopDrop for always being there for me when I need to find a good sample sample.

If you’re looking for a timeless yet modern additions to your closet, definitely add Derek Lam to your list of Sample Sales to check out next season. You’ll be sure to find the right combination of classy yet unconventional pieces!

Stay tuned,

Liza

The Emerging Trend of Customization

Sample Sales Yin2MyYang

Guest Feature by Sophie & Charlotte Bickley of Yin 2My Yang

Editor’s note: Sophie and Charlotte are two sisters who dig fashion trends! To find out how to look like them and shop their looks, check their site.

Major trend alert: customization and personalization is ALL the rage in fashion right now. Although it’s recently become more popular, this trend has actually been a favorite of ours for almost a full year!! We clearly can’t get enough of it…in fact it has been one of the major influences of the millennial buying habits in 2016 and is expected to last through 2017 and beyond. Woo-hoo! This makes us very happy 🙂

Sophie and Charlotte
Bomber Jackets Customized

Want to know what is so special about this trend? Customization allows us to be in control and to be exclusively expressive. More and more fashion brands are incorporating ways to personalize or customize their products in a way to individually cater to their loyal customers, just like us! When something is personalized, or customized, it is made for YOU, and only you. It makes you feel special, feel unique, and it gives you an outlet to (literally) express yourself through your style. This is especially applicable when it comes to millennials, who are the main consumers of these customized pieces. As stated by entepeneur.com, “Millennials want to know a company is paying attention to their specific needs.” (https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/234891) Customization and personalization do just this, they cater to the customer’s specific needs, and this is wonderful for both the customer and the company. It creates a stronger connection and a deeper relationship between the two entities.

Fashion and style already give us a way to express ourselves, but personalization and customization take it to the next level of expression. The individualized aspect of customized pieces makes us, as the customers, feel different from everyone else in the best way, allowing us to truly stand out, and be ourselves – most times, this can be very refreshing, which is why customization is so trendy and in right now. This trend extends beyond the fashion industry, even Coca-Cola cans have added an element of customization by selling cans with specific names instead of the brand name, Coke.

Denim and Jackets
Rocking Denim

We love to add our personal touch to the things we wear. We love to feel unique, different, and special. Customized pieces are able to make us feel all of these things with just one look.  It is clear from this steadfast trend that customization is an effective tactic to enhance sales while making the consumer feel they are getting something special and unique. Customization gives you an outlet to express yourself and allows us to feel different and bold. As stated on fashionista.com, “In an era when brand loyalty is low and demands are high, it makes sense that customization has taken off. Shoppers can design their own Nike sneakers, Brooks Brothers suits, Burberry trench coats and Longchamp bags.” Customization gives the “finicky shopper” a sense of control and a freedom of expression.

Customization is such a secure trend in fashion right now that we are certain it is here to stay.  Some many brands are jumping on board with customization and in our opinions, this will create nothing but success for these brands. Customization sets us, as consumers, apart from all of the other consumers out there because it allows us to purchase items can are specifically tailored to our interests and our individual features, even personalities. Customization allows us to be expressive while remaining loyal to our favorite brands! When we customize something, we give it our personal touch, which allows us to be inventive while tailoring items to our wants and needs, and our individual styles. It’s all about control and that is why we are absolutely certain that the customization trend in fashion is here to stay!

Check out the different ways we have customized some of the items in our wardrobes on the blog.

5 Ways To Look Like A Million Bucks For Less

If Monday is as difficult for you as it is for the rest of us, fear not. There are many wonderful sample sales and shopping events taking place this week. There, you’ll be able to stock up on some low-cost designer items in advance of Spring, which just doesn’t want to come. There are five action items that would maximize anyone’s return on invested time. So below are a few, and I’m always interested in hearing more ideas… so ping me, follow me on Instagram @shopdropapp and shoot me your ideas. Yours always, Estee <3

  1. Shop sample sales

Sample sales are the best-kept secret of gorgeous looking fashionistas. Most brands, yes, even Canali, DVF & Hermes hold sample sales in fashion capitals once or twice a year. The merchandise is sold at a whooping 70%-90% discount. Knowing where to find them sales is a key to looking chic without spending chic. There are a few things that can maximize your results though… and they require that you be prepared to shop wisely.

  2.  Do your research

Before you head to a sample sale, find out which brand or brands are being featured. See if you like any of the items. Find out if the sale sells stock or sample sizes (most sample sales now sell stock). I recommend having an app that lists all sample sales installed on your phone. Once or twice a week, check in and put interesting sales on your calendar.

  3. Stay tuned for outliers

If there is something on sale at the end of the season, chances are, there will be more of a selection in non-standard sizes. My mother-in-law has a 10.5 size foot, and sample sales for shoes are her heaven. You could find the most exquisite and exclusive designs for ridiculous prices if your feet are either ‘too big’ or ‘too small’. If you want to see the maximum selection, go on the first day.

    Sample Sale Images

  4. Know your budget

If you want to spend $5-$10 on an item, then look out for flea markets, blowout sales, and final markdowns. Oftentimes, the last day of a sample sale will be accompanied with additional mark-offs. If your goal is getting the Hermes scarf, then stand in that line, and get to the sale as early as you can.

  5. Set your expectations

The tradeoff of buying luxury items at sample sales is losing the experience. No one will fuss over you at a sample sale bringing you every item you could dream of. Most probably, you will have to change in a public changing room, will have to be swift in your choices and stand in line to check out. If you ask us, it’s definitely worth the 70%-90% discount you’ll get in the long run. And if you set your expectations correctly, the experience will be fun!

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Eileen Fisher

Sample Sales, Sample Sale, Sample Sale NY, NYC,

Meet Eileen Fisher; designer extraordinaire and creator of her own eponymous clothing line. Her comfy high-end line features everything from pajamas to business casual clothing. Her unique flare manifests itself in each of her pieces, which are designed to be comfortable, yet fashionable. Eileen’s line was premised on simplicity. She was irked by the fact that men have such an easy time getting dressed in the morning, while women’s clothing is forever getting more complicated. She doesn’t believe in runways or huge in-your-face events, she believes that clothing is made for real life.

Despite Eileen’s rise to fame in the fashion world, she didn’t follow the most traditional path to the designer life. Check out these 5 things you didn’t know about Eileen Fisher:

1Fisher’s Lack of Fashion Background

That’s right folks, this savvy designer who makes clothes for everyday use is not a graduate of FIT or LIM. Rather, she attended University of Illinois, starting out as a math major, before switching to interior design.

2. The Inspiration for Fisher’s First Piece Was Derived From the Japanese Kimono.

Those who have been exposed to the Eileen Fisher line are quite aware that none of her pieces look anything like the traditional kimono. Rather than the actual garb itself, Fisher was astonished by how this traditional article of clothing has withstood the test of time, and is still incredibly relevant. “I was intrigued that the kimono was the only shape in Japan that they used for years, how can you make a design to last that long? A design that belongs to a moment, but also, transcends a moment.” (Ellen Fisher quoted in an article in Fashionista.) This inspired the quality of simplicity in her line.

Sample sales, NYC Sample Sales, NYC, NYC Shopping, Designer Clothing

3. She is an Entrepreneur as well as Designer

As mentioned previously, unlike most famous designers with renowned brand name lines, Fisher had no formal education in neither fashion nor business. The first piece of clothing she made was done in her home, using a sewing machine and a pair of scissors. “If I had some technical training, maybe I might have gotten the idea off the ground earlier,” said Fisher.” On the other hand, because I didn’t know what I was supposed to do or how I should do it, I just did it differently in my own way.” (http://fashionista.com/2016/04/eileen-fisher-fashionista-meetup)

4. She’s an Activist

Not only is Eileen an established designer, she also plays a large role in assisting women and girls by activating their leadership potential. The “Activating Leadership Grant” funds programs that help women and girls activate their natural leadership qualities. Each year of the grant has its own unique theme. Non-profit organizations that fit the category apply, and are awarded on a relevance and need basis. 2016, the 7th year of the grant accepted organizations that follow the theme of applying leadership attributes.

5. There’s a Sample Sale coming up!

Want to see what all the hype is about? Come check out the Eileen Fisher sample sale at the boutique’s 9th street location. The sample sale will feature a peek at the spring line for up to 50% off in select sizes. Winter line in various sizes for 40% off. Keep in mind this sample sale is only two days long so save the date! March 11th and 12th
