Karen Millen Sample Sale is Disappointing As Usual

The Karen Millen sample sale at Clothingline is one we think of as a recurring sale – we literally haven’t seen a month pass without Clothingline announcing yet another Karen Millen sample sale. As one would expect, there isn’t enough fresh merchandise to go around so frequently. As a result, the shopper ends up with the same old merchandise that has been packed and unpacked a few dozen times, has lost its crisp, and hasn’t lost quite enough in price to make it worth your while.

Setting: The setting was a typical Clothingline layout. Half the hall was closed off, probably set up for the next sale they have. The racks were organized by merchandise. And the circle racks in the middle of the room organized by category first and size second. The staff was relatively sweet, or at least didn’t bother you to shop.

Prices: For this type of merchandise that has already been discounted so many times – not amazing. Dresses were selling for $45, skirts for $30, tops for $25 – and that’s on the 2nd day of the sale and 1st day of markdowns.

Merchandise: Lots of furry coats selling for $129. I don’t know who in New York would have room in her closet or in her mind for a heavy winter item when it’s already May, but whatever. There were some cute dresses for $45, the same ribbed metallic skirt that was there every other time we went to the Karen Millen sample sale. Other than that, not much.

We’re being generous when we give this sale a 4 out of 10. Save your energy and stay home.

Markups at the Karen Millen Sample Sale??

By Melanie Capruso

Today we stopped by the Karen Miller sample sale at Clothingline. When I first walked in I was immediately impressed! There was plenty of merchandise, which was organized by size. While most of the inventory was quite summery, there was plenty of pants, skirts, and tops which could make the transition from late summer to fall and winter. I did notice some minor damages on a few white dresses, but there were other pieces of the same style.

It was only when I started looking at the more specialty pieces that I started to notice some discrepancies in prices. I had found this beautiful (faux) fur vest that was the last one. While all the signs said that outerwear was $150, the original sales tag from Bloomingdales showed the last selling price of the jacket was $124.99. Okay, so I thought it must have been a mistake. So I found someone who worked at Clothingline and asked them to let me know how much the item would cost, the tag price or the sign price. To my shock, I was told that the vest would be $150 despite to tag price. I understand that for the ease of selling the merchandise, all styles are generally the same price, but for them to sell a piece for $26 more than it was being sold before is insane.

We rated the Karen Millen sample sale at Clothingline an 8 out of 10. While generally the sale seemed to have great deals and plenty of inventory, the discrepancy in prices was ridiculous.

All Under $50 at the Karen Miller Sample Sale

The Karen Miller brand is having it’s second sample sale this year at Clothingline. While I’m not the biggest fan of the brand, I have to admit that prices are quite low. Everything except for the leather items is under $50. There are lots of options for larger sizes (6-12) in clothes and quite a few shoe options as well. The sample sale has clothes for women only – and includes dresses, jackets, tops, cardigans, skirts and pants. A lot of the merchandise is dirty or damaged, so make sure to double check the items before checking out. If you like the British brand, then you still have two days to shop at the sale.
