Ahh yes, it’s that time of year again. Spring is in full swing, we can shed the winter layers and attend the ever most exciting event of the year: the Manolo Blahnik sample sale. For one day only you can travel down the road from the Manolo NYC boutique to the Warwick hotel conference room, and score a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes for under $200! However, this year it was more Lipstick Jungle than Sex and the City.

Shoppers line up at the Manolo Blahnik sample sale at 4:00 a.m. Considering the fact that doors open to the general public at 11:00 a.m., that is a serious commitment. A Manolo Blahnik sample sale veteran informed us about the procedure:

1. You write your name down as you walk in

2. Receive a numbered ticket based on the order of the list

That didn’t go as planned, since the new staff members did not honor the list we waiters in line created. That caused a group of exhausted, anxious women to claw their way to the front to grab one of the first tickets.

The ticket you receive will have your assigned group number. There are ten people per group, and groups enter based on capacity. The Manolo team attempts to organize shoes by size on tables; however, after the vultures get in, you will likely find a pair of 35s in the 41.5 table. Once you’re inside the stock room, you have unlimited time to shop as many pairs as you’d like (or can afford). At check out, they will strike out the label with a Sharpie and you hand over your cash. Yes, old fashioned cash, as this is a cash only sale.

All this numbered ticket business happens at 11:00 a.m. because, the VIP group (assigned letters A – I) will enter first at 8:30 a.m. No, you can’t just scam a VIP ticket. You have to be high-up in the fashion editorial world, Manolo Blahnik’s wholesale vendor, or an employee/friend of the brand. That is where a lot of the REALLY good stuff goes. So if you’re general public, don’t even count on snagging any classics or Hangisi.

However, there is still a great selection if you are in groups 1 – 5, decent selection (good stuff but you have to search) if you are in groups 6 – 10. After group 10, then it really is every woman for herself. As you can expect, there are hoarders who get there early and grab all the shoes. It’s the classic case of the early bird gets the worm. They DO restock. I left with three pairs of brand new shoes valued at around $2,000 for $460.

It’s important to mention that the resellers penetrated the VIP group and were cleaning out the sale. Some of them (shoppers!!) were also walking around with a marker and marking the shoes they wanted to speed out the checkout process.

The staffing issue was so bad, it earned a separate paragraph in my blog. I’ve been to sample sales before and don’t expect to be treated like royalty. That being said, I was still blown away by how rude the staff was. In the middle of the day, they just stopped the sale to eat lunch. I mean, it’s a freakin’ one-day sale. Bring in a few extra staff members and take shifts for lunch.

Be aware that there are some true samples there. Some shoes have been obviously previously worn with a roughed-up sole, and there is no further discount if that is the case — my advice to you: spring for the ones that are unused. Yes, you can get used ones fixed, but unless you LOVE them, there’s better stuff out there.

This is a type of sale you have to be a pro to maximize results. So here’s a lightning round of tips:

-Get there early, or pay a line sitting service
-If you see something that you think is cute just grab it – grab everything first and then try on
-Cash only so hit up the ATM (and make sure you have money in that account)
-After you get your ticket you can leave and come back – bring what you need to stay occupied and stay there, you might miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime
-It’s a friendly crowd, make a friend
-Look at ALL tables (I found a 38 in a 41 table)
-Some shoppers are legit crazy – don’t let them push you around
-Internet/cell service is horrible – be prepared
-Dress in comfy shoes that make trying on other shoes easy – the room is small and chaotic so comfort and efficiency are your BFF (ladies, this isn’t a fashion show, you’re not here to impress, you’re here to shop the best deals on Manolo’s)
-Treat yourself to a nice lunch after going through all of that

Happy Shopping!

Manolo Blahnik Markdown Number Two – Down to 60%

The Manolo Boutique sale started in the beginning of January – and today the 2nd markdowns finally begin. While there aren’t too many sizes left, the sale is worth the trip – because if you find something you like at 60% off, you hit the jackpot.

The place is full of classy finds. The iconic hangisis are 50% off, but most other things are 60% off. If you have the opportunity to get yourself into midtown in the next two weeks, definitely add the Manolo markdown to your list of to-dos.

Manolo Blahnik Markdowns Begin This Week

manolo blahnik boutique sale

Since we had a ton of questions about the Manolo Boutique sale, let us clarify. The boutique sale is different from the sample sale. The boutique sale lasts for over a month in the regular store on 54th St. Prices drop gradually. The sample sale takes place for one day in  a hotel in NY sometime in May, is cash only and has long lines to get in.

So this is the boutique sale 🙂 so far prices are at 30% off retail. Next dropdown will take place on January 21st. There are lots of shoe options (classics and black), a great variety in size and the staff was quite sweet. If you want to check out the iconic brand at a discount to retail, add the boutique sale to your next NYC trip then.

Wait, Don’t Run to the Manolo Blahnik Sale

Manolo Blahnik Sale

By: Cristina Martin

Who doesn’t love Manolos this time of year? The Manolo Blahnik sale has a significant amount of shoes discounted. However, prices are only 40% off at the moment. Our sources say Manolo Blahnik will be upping the discount to 60% off soon. We will keep you updated.

As mentioned before, the Manolo Blahnik sale has a great selection of shoes. Currently, there are still many sizes available. However, the longer you wait the less sizes they have. You have to pick your poison. Would you rather pay more and get the style you love, or pay less and have to choose from what’s left. Either way, you are getting a pretty good discount on shoes that normally begin at $500. The sale is held at their cozy retail store on the west side. The staff is very attentive and will help you find the perfect pair. Happy Shopping!

UPDATE 8/6/18
We are about a month into the extended Manolo sale. We are dissapointed to report only some shoes are marked down to 80%. Most shoes are now marked down 60%. Right now it’s mostly limited to summer shoes – sandals and open-toed heels. However there are sill a ton of sizes left! Updated pictures are included below.

Channeling Our Inner Carrie Bradshaw at the Manolo Blahnik Sample Sale

By: Cristina Martin

“You can count on one hand the things a New Yorker will wait for. My list includes: the perfect rent control apartment, the chocolate souffle at Le Bernardin, and the annual Manolo Blahnik sale.” – Carrie Bradshaw

You may or may not have the perfect rent control apartment just yet, but you may have been one of the lucky people to get into the Manolo Blahnik sample sale. If you did, boy did you wait! Lines began forming during the early morning hours. Everyone was given a ticket with a number upon arrival. The number represented what group you were in, and when the Manolo Blahnik sample sale officially opened at 11:00 a.m., they let in group 1 and so forth.

I was lucky enough to be in group 9 going inside at around 11:30 a.m. All the shoes were on tables separated by size. When I got in they had a pretty good selection in size and style. The popular sizes were starting to diminish as time went by. Shoes started at $125 and increased in price depending on embellishments. On the other hand, boots started at $300. Cheap for Manolo, but still pricey for sample sale standards.

I gave the sale a ShopDrop rating of 6.5 out of 10. Like I said the selection was good and prices were decent, but it lost a lot of points for being cash only. Who really carries cash nowadays?! More importantly, who’s carrying around hundreds of dollars?! I really liked this ticket system. There is no dreadful line waiting on your feet for hours. You can even leave the hotel an come back with your ticket. Once you get your ticket you wait in a comfortable, temperature controlled room, with outlets. The only thing missing was WiFi. Even though the Manolo Blahnik team tried to make the sample sale experience more enjoyable, it’s still a Manolo Blahnik sample sale, so it was really hectic inside!

Perhaps I’m being too harsh with a 6.5 rating, since the prices and the selection was good. I also really enjoyed the ticket system. But hey, cash only and the fact that it was so hectic inside… It had me frazzled enough to take off a considerable amount of points.

Looking forward to next year!

About The Manolo Markdown & Why There Aren’t Too Many Sample Sales in January

Manolo Blahnik 60% Markdown NY ShopDrop app

As 2018 begins, we can’t help but notice that the number of sample sales per week dropped from over 100 to a mere 10-20. True, this is the week of the Holiday itself, perhaps the slowest week of the year. None the less, we’d like to go over the reasons that sample sale season is slower between January and February.

  1. It is cold – people want to stay indoors and shop online – not in physical brick and mortar stores, where they could freeze their *** off waiting in line.
  2. Regular stores have their biggest markdowns during this time of year (think Manolo Blahnik – that is why we covered their 60% markdown here) so sample sales only offer an additional 20%-30% off in that case.
  3. It’s post gifting season. Most New Yorkers are exhausted after shopping for the Holiday season: all the equipment, gifts and festive prep leaves shoppers exhausted – both financially and emotionally.
  4. Jan-March is known as ‘the dead season’ for physical retail across the board!

That is why we decided to cover the Manolo Blahnik 60% markdown taking place in their headquarters in midtown Manhattan. Half the store was on sale, the other half was still selling at full price. Shoes and boots ranges from $205 to $1,000, when retail prices ranged between $600 and $1,600. Items included Summer, Fall and Winter collections with sandals, velvet heels, boots and booties. Styles included both classic and holiday. As always, images & prices are included below. Enjoy.
