The (Not So) Clever Alice Sale

By: Eve Orbach

When one of the first things you hear upon entering a sale is “the golden rule is to NOT trust the sizing”, you know you’re not off to a great start. The Clever Alice pop up features multiple brands such as Stellah, PORTO, Vivienne Hu, Inizio, Raw Earth Wild Sky, and more at discounts of up to 80%. Featured items include sweaters, skirts, tops, dresses, jackets, and bags. The prices really varied by item and brand, but as a whole I would say the deals were simply 😐.

The sale is organized by brand and clothing item. Every piece is hung up neatly on hangers. The staff is super helpful to the point where I literally didn’t have to carry any item for more than .2 seconds, when it would then kindly be whisked away to the fitting room. The fitting room does not have a mirror inside, so every time I tried something on I had to go out and do a little fashion show in front of every person in the store. (There were definitely a few not too approving looks given to me by some of the other customers, lol. To each their own, guys!)

There honestly is nothing too notable about this one. If you’re in the area it may be worth popping by because they have some good pieces. Overall though the issues with the sizing were pretty frustrating and the deals were by and large underwhelming. Hopefully once the sample sale season kicks back up again there will be bigger and better ones to come!

Zadig & Voltaire? More like Overpriced, Beware!

By: Eve Orbach

Parisian luxury brand Zadig & Voltaire’s sale features many cool pieces for both men and women, but the reductions aren’t that great for a sample sale. Since this one is being hosted by 260, as per usual you’re better off waiting for their last-day price markdowns.

The t-shirts ($30), sweatshirts ($60), and denim ($60-$75) are the best deals of the sale. Leather jackets, blazers, shearling, and various other outerwear are priced from $150-$550.

This one is all the way up at 2151 Broadway. Maybe it’s worth stopping by if you’re in the area but I would definitely not recommend trekking too far for this one.

The sale is split into a women’s and men’s section. Clothes are neatly organized by item. There is a wide range of sizes for the pieces, which are all edgy and trendy.

The lines for checkout was really long when I was there, so proceed with caution.

I give this sale a 6/10. There’s a great accessories section and some cool options. This is a sale that requires a keen eye and a little bit of effort, but you might be able to walk away with a stand-out piece.

The Christian Louboutin Sale was Cute but Costly

By: Eve Orbach

This invite-only Louboutin sale had really beautiful items but prices were still high. Most of the shoes fell along the $300-$400 range. The shoes came in all different styles (booties, HEELS 😍😍😍, flats, etc.) and sizes. Bag straps and perfumes were also available for sale.

At around a 40% discount, the prices were definitely at a significant markdown. If you were in the market for a pair of Louboutins the sale just might be worth to go, but you can honestly find similar priced ones on websites like Poshmark and The RealReal.

The merchandise was organized by size. All of the shoes were still in their boxes and the boxes were stacked from floor to ceiling. Most of the boxes had pictures of the shoes on them, so it wasn’t too hard to navigate. The staff was helpful. All of the shoppers were running around so frantically that observing them was a notable highlight of being there.

The sale was invite only. Even with an invitation, there was still a line.

I give this sale a 6/10 for having such amazing stuff. However, even with the 100% drool-worthy shoes, I wouldn’t recommend trying to weasel your way in without an invitation. You’re better off finding similar deals online instead.

You Need to go to the Jonathan Simkhai Sale!!

By: Eve Orbach

Guys, seriously, Get. There. ASAP! As soon as you finish reading this— heck, go right now, while you read this. (just make sure to look both ways before crossing 😉 The Jonathan Simkhai sample sale was a total hit! Jonathan Simkhai is famous for making beautiful, detailed dresses and at this sale there were many great ones to choose from. Styles of dresses ranged from casual everyday pieces to stunning floor length gowns. Many of the dresses were $195, which is a great deal for a couture dress. I even was able to find an adorable summery number for just $85. The prices of the gowns varied, but there were so many stunning ones.

Women’s dresses, sweaters, denim, pants, jackets, and tops were arranged by size and category. It was very well organized and that made it a pleasure to shop at. There was also a wide variety of items available for children ranging from infants up to teenagers.

Some of the best deals include jeans for $65, sweaters for $50, swimwear for $20, and children’s t-shirts for $25.

There were no lines to get in. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Cash and credit cards accepted. All sales are final.

I give this sale a 9/10! There were plenty of styles and categories of items available. I left the sale with some great items that I can’t wait to wear. (Another fun bonus of the sale— there were Kenzo items for children and teens. I was even able to get some holiday presents for my younger siblings. $20 for a Kenzo hat? Unreal!)

What: Jonathan Simkhai sale!                                                                                                                                         When: 450 W 14th Street, Meatpacking District                                                                                                          Where: December 11-15, 2019

Ban.do Sample Sale? More like Band.NO!

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Ban.do sample sale was one of the weirdest, worst experiences of my life. First of all, there was no real price list, all of the items were catagorized by the percantge discount. Now, I’m not dumb or anything,I’m just lazy. And I don’t want to have to do mental math while I’m shopping. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, the discounts weren’t even good! Most of the items ranged from 50%-60% off. I mean that is just disgraceful. Ban.do, we know that this is your first “warehouse” sale, but just some friendly advice here… sample sale pricing is usually around 80% off!

In addition to the crappy deals, the merchandise was just weird. There was hardly any clothing but they had plenty of pool floats and “travel planners”. I mean what is that about? There were ice trays and yoga mats, phone chargers and notebooks, but no shoes! It was also so crowded. The last sale that I went to at 260 5th Ave. that had a line was Rag and Bone. And it wasn’t even as long! I could not believe how packed it was. People were hoarding plastic cups and weird circular bags like it was there job.

Overall I gave this sale a 3/10. I’m so mad that I wasted my time going, and I all I can say is, I hope you don’t make the same mistake I did.

The IRO Sample Sale is FAB.

By: Jacqueline Munro

The IRO Sample Sale is not one you want to miss. It is being hosted by Eclipse NY, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite sample sale hosts. The employees are the nicest you’ll find, and their sales have been knocking my socks off lately.

At the IRO sale, there is a TON of merchandise perfect for the fall. They have so many cute dresses($110-$190), trendy jeans ($90), stylish coats and jackets ($220-$590), fabulous blouses ($85), and sweaters ($120) that will bring a tear to your eye. Additionally, the shoe section ($130-$290) is stocked with boots that are definitely made for walking. The men’s section is also awesome; they have a bunch of options ranging from outerwear to flannels, to chelsea boots. And the best part is that there is no shortage of product or sizes. This warehouse is filled with merchandise, and if you’re able to make it, you will without a doubt find something that you love.

Overall I’m giving this sale a 9.5/10. The discounts are up to 85% off which is exactly where they should be, and the selection is diverse which I think is so important. Whether you have a more eccentric wardrobe or just like to keep things plain and simple, you’ll be able to walk out of the sale with shopping bags on both arms. And lastly, I just want to thank the Eclipse staff for always being so kind and welcoming, you’re the best! Good luck shoppers, even though I know you won’t need it.

The Y-3 Sample Sale was Utterly Disappointing

By: Jacqueline Munro

Let me start by saying that if you go to the Y-3 sample sale and there is a line, you’re a fool if you wait on it. I’m so angry that I wasted my time standing in the blazing heat just so I could walk into the sale and walk out five minutes later. When you get inside it is going to seem like there might be a good selection of merchandise. This illusion is created by the fact that the entire floor is lined with tables of shoes. But don’t get your hopes up– quantity does NOT mean quality. The prices aren’t good either! The Y-3 high tops are $93, and the low tops are $73 which, if you ask me, is a rip off for old, outdated styles. But hey, at least for guys there are a LOT of crappy options.

For women, there are hardly any shoes, and it’s not like the apparel section is making up for that loss. There are about five styles of athletic shorts and tops, and maybe two different kinds of jackets. I wish I had more to write for you girls but there is literally nothing else to say.

Overall I’m giving this sale a 4/10, which is generous. The only reason I’m giving it above a 0 is that I went on the second day. I can only pray that what I saw was a result of greedy buyers purchasing all of the good merchandise on the first day. Do not go to this sale, shoppers. Avoid it at all costs!

Alexandre Birman Sample Sale has Gorgeous Options for Everyone

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Alexandre Birman sample sale is simply amazing, I’ve never seen such a heavenly sight. There are a ton of stunning shoes ranging from size 5 to size 12.5 — I didn’t even know brands made shoes in women’s size 12.5! If you missed out on our VIP access to this sale, make sure you purchase the monthly package so that you don’t keep passing up opportunities for early entry to great sales like this one!

This sample sale is taking place in a huge showroom in Chelsea. There is a seemingly endless amount of tables filled with shoes lining each wall, and they are all organized by size. Staff members are stationed at each table and they are more than willing to help you find the right pair of shoes. My favorite pieces at the sale are all booties, but there are also amazing pumps, sandals, and espadrilles. There are lots of classic styles as well as some more eccentric ones. From colorful snakeskin wedges to black suede boots you’re sure to find something you’ll love.

Overall I’m giving this sale an 8/10. The pricing is good, and the selection is unreal. Furthermore, not having to deal with nasty employees or a terrible ambiance like at 260 made everything 100x more enjoyable. Definitely check out this sale ASAP; I have a feeling it is going to be popular and you DON’T want to miss out.

The Michelle Waugh Sample Sale will Fulfill all of you fall Wardrobe Dreams

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Michelle Waugh Sample Sale has some of the most beautiful outerwear pieces I’ve ever seen. Although everything is expensive, I understand the pricing because each piece is beautifully made.

I hadn’t heard of Michelle Waugh before going to this sample sale, but I’m thrilled that I discovered the brand today. Her coats are absolutely stunning and the materials she uses are top-notch. I know that the prices are a bit steep but given the quality of the products I’m not surprised. Among the somewhat small selection there was a nice variety of coats and jackets that were all different materials, colors, and sizes. The duster coats were a dream and the cashmere blazers were exquisite. I would kill for one of her pieces, but my bank account is already dead.

Overall I rated this sale a  7/10. Even though the prices were a little too high, the gorgeous merchandise and extremely kind staff members were more than redeeming.

The Prices at the Elan Sample Sale are Right Where they Should be

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Elan sample sale was a sale shoppers’ dream; everything was between $10 and $20. Although the showroom and selection were small, it is definitely worth checking out if you need cute, cheap clothes for summer.

My favorite items at this sale were all jumpsuits. They had plenty of different styles that would be great to rock this season but the only issue was that most of them were small sizes. There was also a limited assortment of $10 sweaters, matching sweatpant sets, and cute sundresses. There was nothing that really blew me away, but I wouldn’t expect anything more than what I got from such a cheap sale.

Overall I rated this sale an 8/10. I felt that the fantastic prices were enough to weigh out the unfortunately small selection of clothing. I love going to sales that are stocked with items that are in season, and this was definitely one of them. Happy shopping!
