The Rent the Runway Sample Sale was Surprising

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Rent the Runway Sample Sale pleasantly surprised me. That’s not to say it was amazing, but I was shocked that it wasn’t completely terrible. I hate giving 260 my money, but I got a super cute Alexis shift dress, a Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini sweatshirt, and a Phillip Lim sweater.

This sale is filled with a lot of merchandise, and I saw racks in the basement which means that they will be restocking. They have every form of clothing imaginable– shirts, dresses, skirts, shorts, jeans, jackets, coats… You name it they’ve got it. Prices are as marked so it is hard to get a sense of the average percentage discount, but two of the things that I purchased were about 86% off of their retail prices. Unfortunately, because this is a Rent the Runway sale, a lot of the items are damaged or just noticeably worn. There was a really cute puffer jacket by The Kooples that I wanted to buy, but it was completely discolored. I also saw several sweaters with holes and stains in them and lots of shirts and dresses with pulls in them.

Overall I gave this sale a 5.5/10. Because while I was surprised by the discounts, it was a complete sh*t show. It was horribly disorganized, the dressing rooms were a wreck, and the line to get in was absurdly long.

The Treasure Hunt that is the Rent The Runway Sample Sale

The Rent The Runway Sample Sale was like walking into heaven, if heaven is a bunch of designer items at extremely discounted prices. Brands like Tory Burch, Marchesa Notte and Badgley Mischka were being sold for less than $150! a fraction of what they would be sold at retail. The selection of bags was also really good in that most pieces weren’t over $200 for brands like Kate Spade and Tory Burch.

That being said, it was not all paradise. There were extremely long lines to get into the sale and once in, it was very crowded and hard to move around or really look for anything. Also, many items were damaged and even though they were discounted, it still didn’t make up for the ripped dresses or broken handles on bags.

Overall, I gave this sale a 6.5/10. There are some really great finds, if you can find them, but you really have to look for them and inspect them for damages.

Improvements Have Been Made at the Rent the Runway Sample Sale

Rent the Runway Sample Sale

By: Cristina Martin

We gave the last Rent the Runway sample sale a pretty dismal review. We think enough people complained (including us) to 260 about the quality of the merchandise. For the record, we still found damaged items, but not nearly as many as the last sale. Additionally, we didn’t spot any dirty clothing. Now, maybe they will listen to us about pricing. This is obviously used clothing. Prices NEED to be lowered more. Also, stop pricing things $49.98. It’s tacky. Make it either $49 or $50.

We rated the Rent the Runway sample sale a 5 out of 10. Where they improved in quality and there was no line out the door, they need to improve in price and use of space. This is one of the few sales that offers almost every size. 260 should run this sale out of their Wooster St. location, because it has a downstairs. Breaking up the sizes on two different floors will help east the chaos in store. Again, we found ourselves climbing over people to look through the racks. The other shoppers were vicious too! We were trying to shop and got so much attitude from the other shoppers. It was helpful to have the sale organized by size. It made our search a little easier. We also like that they have have a wide rage of sizes and styles. So you can really find something for anyone and any occasion. Don’t go out of your way for this. Wait for price reductions, or stop in if you have time or are in the area.  Happy shopping!

Get Ready for a Scavenger Hunt at the Rent the Runway Sample Sale

By: Cristina Martin

The Rent the Runway sample sale was unpleasant from start to finish. When I got there, I was greeted by a line that wrapped around the corner! After waiting 30 minutes, I finally got past the doors ready to shop. Unfortunately, the space was way too crowded! On top of having to practically climb over people to just look at the clothing, most of the merchandise was dirty or damaged. Some of it was downright disgusting!

How I felt walking through the Rent the Runway Sample Sale

The only positives of the Rent the Runway sample sale were: 1. Everything is organized by size, which makes it easier to narrow your search .  You don’t have to scour the store to find your size. Also, sizes ranged from 0 – 22, so there really was something for everyone here. 2. The prices were pretty decent. Non-big-name gowns and dresses were below $100, and big name gowns and dresses were below $200.

We are giving the Rent the Runway sample sale a 3 out of 10. It is NOT worth the wait nor the crowds to go on an endless hunt to find something that is not so obviously worn.

My personal advice: I went to this sale last year, but on one of the last days. I didn’t have to wait in a huge line for damaged clothing, and they had price reductions. I left with 2 really great dresses. If it’s worth anything… save your time and go at the end if you are really in need for some dresses.

Hope we could help! Details and photos below.
