Retrofête Sample Sale- EEP!!!!!

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Retrofête sample sale starts tomorrow morning and it is going to be AMAZING. I walked into the clean white showroom with low expectations, (hot brands don’t usually have great sample sales) but I was BLOWN AWAY! If you’re a ShopDrop VIP member you’ll be able to attend this sale an hour before anyone else, and if you aren’t there is still time to become one! Download our app to get the special perks now!

At this sale, it seems like there are a million dresses. They have tons of classic styles like the Grace, Gabrielle, Audrey, Ella, and Olya as well as others like the Flora and Denisa. All of the dresses are available in every color of the rainbow and more! The long sleeve mini sequin dresses are $300, the one-shoulder and midi long sleeve sequin dresses are $250, and the sequin slips are $100. I mean, prices like that for a brand this hot are unheard of!!!! In addition to the amazing dresses, there are tons of cute short/top sets, jogger/sweatshirt sets, and other single pieces like skirts, tanks, and blazers. There is also a small selection of shoes and bags which are to die for.

Overall I rated this sale a 9/10. If you don’t go to this sale you’re either a fool or you’re really smart and trying to save money; because trust me, if you go, you won’t be able to leave empty-handed. Good luck, shoppers! I hope you have sick New Years’ plans because this attire is perfect for the occasion.

The S’well, Nest, and Moleskine Sample Sale is ANYTHING BUT SWELL.

By: Jacqueline Munro

I’ve never seen such a big shi* show in my entire life… Bravo 260, you’ve outdone yourselves! Looking at the line for this sale you would’ve thought they were giving away free diamonds… but sadly, no. Just overpriced candles, water bottles, and notebooks.

By the time I got there, there were hardly any S’well bottles left, and the ones that they did have were not cute. Ther larger bottles were going for $17 and the medium (normal) sized ones were going for $10. In my opinion, that’s how they should be priced in the first place, so I’m not going to praise them for dropping their sample sale prices to those numbers. As for the Moleskine notebooks, there were a ton. They had lots of cute colors and sizes, and some even had cute characters like Batman on them. With that said though, the prices were….. what they should always be? I just can’t imagine paying any more than the sample sale prices for one of those things. And last but not least, Nest. Before I got into the sale there was a man with a megaphone announcing the scents that they had sold out of. It sounded like a lot of the good, non-holiday scents were gone. But I’m not a Nest fanatic so what would I know. There were still a decent amount of candles, diffusers, and perfumes left but the discounts were BLEH!!!!! A follower of ours pointed out that there are currently Nest products on Nordstrom Rack for cheaper!

Overall I rated this sale a 5/10. I can NOT recommend going to this sale. To be honest, I was going to give it a 0/10, but the number of crazed people in the sale made me feel like there had to be something good about it. I just genuinely hope that none of you are foolish enough to wait on line to get in. I only did it because I had to. Good luck, shoppers. You’re going to need it for this sale.

The Paul Smith Sample Sale has Very Limited Options for Women

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Paul Smith sample sale is pretty much just for men. The whole front half of the showroom is filled with men’s clothing and there are about three racks of women’s clothes in the back of the room along one wall. So girls, don’t get your hopes up going to this sale unless you can fit into men’s clothes or you’re buying for your boyfriend/husband.

For the guys, there are tons of sport coats and suit jackets, trousers and jeans, t-shirts and button-downs, and shoes. Prices are a bit high in my opinion, the discounts are mostly about 60%-70% off which is okay, but not amazing. As for the ladies, the best options are the trousers, and the worst are the tops. There were hardly any shirts and the ones that they did have were meh. There were a couple of nice work dresses but they were pricey!

Overall I rated this sale a 6/10. In my opinion, it is just not worth waiting on line for.

I’m saying “Boooo” to the Jimmy Choo Sample Sale

By: Jacqueline Munro

Overall I was not impressed by the Jimmy Choo sample sale. The sale is taking place at 123 West 18th St. in the Metropolitan Pavilion. If you’re having trouble finding it, just look for the insanely long line of people standing on the sidewalk.

At this sale there were TONS of shoes; I was shocked by the amount of merchandise when I walked in. All of the shoes were organized by size. Each size ranging from 34.5-41 had its own section of racks/tables that were overflowing with shoes. The prices for women started at $200 and went up to $375 plus an additional $200 for any exotics. There were lots of pumps and wedges but sadly there were not as many boots/booties, sneakers, or flats. The sneaker selection that they did have was pretty underwhelming and the flats weren’t great either. There were a few hot pairs of booties, though! Additionally, there were lots of sandals, which is quite unfortunate given that were almost in the month of November. But for all of you snow birds out there, this sale is the perfect place to start prepping your s-winter shoe-drobe. In addition to all of the shoes, there was also a small selection of bags ranging from clutches to large totes, and they’re selling fast! The mens section was decent and all shoes were $150 which is great! How come women’s shoes couldn’t be priced like that!?

Overall I rated this sale a 6.5/10. Although there were approximately a gazillion pairs of shoes, a lot of them were outdated and just down-right ugly. The pricing was okay, but not amazing and the line was absurdly long. I’d say go if you’re a huge Jimmy Choo fan, but don’t expect to be wow-ed by anything.

The Rebecca Minkoff Sample Sale has Bags Galore

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Rebecca Minkoff sample sale is currently taking place at 260 sample sale’s 5th avenue location. Personally, I’m not a Rebecca Minkoff fan, and this sale is always super hectic. So I’d advise you all to check out their online sale, which is currently offering up to 75% off retail prices, before succumbing to the misery of 260.

At the Rebecca Minkoff sample sale, there is a s*it ton of bags and a pretty decent shoe selection (but very limited sizing). I recognized a LOT of bags that were at their last sale back in July which means that there was a huge carryover of overstock. In my opinion, that’s really lame; especially given that the last sale was only a few months ago. At least the prices are the same though, there haven’t been any increases. For handbags, sample prices range from $15 – $75 and for production pieces, they range from $50 – $175. For shoes, sample pairs are $30 and production pairs range from $50 – $80. And finally, RTW samples range from $15 – $50 and production pieces range from $30 – $250. Overall I’m not overly impressed by these prices but I’m not super disappointed either.

Overall we rated this sale a 6.5/10. We recommend waiting until the last day for further markdowns, and you don’t have to worry about not being able to find anything at the end because they have a TON of merchandise. Happy shopping!

You can Stop Holding your Breath, the Alexander Wang Sample Sale is Back!

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Alexander Wang sample sale is back and so far it has been *Drumroll Please* INSANE!!!! We were super excited to hear that this sale was open to the public after years of being invite-only, but now all we feel is anxiety!

If you ever make it into this sample sale (the line was 500 people deep at one point) the main issue you’ll come across is the resellers. 260, how on Earth could you let this happen!? We got pictures of hoarders with mile-high piles of bags, clothes, and shoeboxes, and they were grabbing things off the racks so quickly that not even the employees could keep up with them. So even though 260 started off with a ton of back stock, we’re not sure it’ll last until Sunday. Aside from the resellers, the place was a completely disorganized mess. Shoe boxes were everywhere and the staff could barely navigate their way through the clutter. The prices were decent and the merchandise seemed like it was good if you got there first thing this morning, but apparently, all of the bags are already gone, and they are out of lots of sizes in certain shoes.

Overall we rated this sale a 6/10. 260, you really need to get your sh*t together on this one, we had really high hopes. This sale is not for the faint of heart, so unless you’re ready to wait online for three hours, and throw some elbows once you get inside, avoid this sale at all costs.

The 260 Multi Brand Sale is a hit or miss

By: Jacqueline Munro

260 Sample Sale is currently hosting a multi-brand sale including Derek Lam, Cushnie, and Pierre Hardy at its 151 Wooster location. I love multi-brand sales because if you don’t luck out with one of the brands, there are always others that might offer something you like!

At this sample sale, the Derek Lam selection was by far the largest. The Derek Lam (collection and 10 Crosby) merchandise took up most of the first floor. The discounts were mediocre, to be honest, but the selection was fabulous. The pants ($95 for 10 Crosby and $225 for collection) section was superb and there were a bunch of amazing coats ($250 for 10 Crosby and $300-$400 for Collection) and blouses ($85) as well. Sweaters were $150 which seemed a bit outrageous to me, but there were a lot of cute ones. As for Cushnie, the selection was very small. There were almost no gowns and the activewear selection was more plentiful than the dress selection. The discounts for Cushnie ranged from 70%-80% off and the sample pieces were as marked. The Pierre Hardy selection was downstairs and it was pretty big– in addition to the women’s selection, there were a lot of options for men and a few for children too! There were tons of flats and heels but not as big of a sneaker or boot selection. And as if the small boot selection wasn’t sad enough, all of the sizes were on the larger end. So if you have small feet you’re out of luck. The boots were $250, “dress” shoes were $180, and sneakers were $150. These prices seemed a bit steep to me but at least they had good stuff.

Overall I rated this sale a 6/10. It was not very well organized and the prices were a bit steep, but if you’re willing to splurge on some cute pants for the fall, it might be worth checking out.

The Prive Sample Sale is a No Go.

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Prive Sample Sale is being hosted at the Chelsea Market and it kind of sucks. I was super excited when I read the flyer for this sale, but when I got there it was a total let down.

Although the prices were decent (shoes were $159, outerwear was $249, dresses were $109, and sweaters and sweatshirts were $89) the selection was terrible and most of the clothes looked like they’d been sitting in a ball in the back of a warehouse for the last 100 years. The only respectable items at this sale were the shoes. There were a couple of cool pairs by Marni, some cute Gianvito Rossi pumps, and one awesome pair of Moschino shoes, but other than that I was unimpressed. The outerwear options were okay but the shirts, sweaters, and bottoms were atrocious. The men’s selection was definitely better than the women’s selection. There was a ton of Dsquared stuff and the jackets that they had were super on-trend. I think today was the first time that I ever wished I was a man.

Overall I gave this sale a 5/10. If I hadn’t been able to walk out of this sale and buy $25 worth of chocolate in the same building I probably would have given it a zero. Avoid this sale if you can help it.

Coats Galore at the Gerard Darel Sample Sale

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Gerard Darel sample sale is being hosted by Eclipse NY in Chelsea. When I heard about the sale, I had never heard of the brand, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it. But I was very pleasantly surprised!

There is a ton of merchandise at this sale and sizes range from XS to XXL. Out of everything that they had in the showroom, the coats were my favorite. There were tons of gorgeous styles in various sizes for just $250! Now that might sound like a lot, but there were high-quality parkas with mink fur hoods and shearling collars, cashmere coats with fur hoods, and other fancy peacoats. There were tons of cool sweaters and super chic blouses priced at $85. Oh and if you’re in the market for some new pants, you’ll definitely find some at this sale. There were about 10 huge racks filled with different kinds of pants ranging from black leopard jeans to plaid slacks. On average the discounts ranged from about 75%-85% off.

Overall I gave this sale a 9/10. Aside from the great pricing, beautiful organization, and awesome selection, the staff members were beyond kind as always. Eclipse, you’ve done it again! Bravo!!!

The Moment we’ve all Been Waiting for: The Saks Potts Sample Sale

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Saks Potts sample sale is currently being hosted down near Canal street in a tiny space that cannot accommodate more than 7 shoppers at a time. The line was insanely long and the staff members weren’t limiting the amount of time that the shoppers could spend in the showroom so it moved very slowly.

When you walk in the sale you’re probably going to feel claustrophobic and you might even be a little disappointed at first. They don’t have a lot of merchandise on display because the space is so limited, but I was told that they had enough back stock to put out new items every day of the sale. Most of the sizes were on the smaller end, but it looked like there may have been a few exceptions. There are about four long racks of coats and jackets ranging from their classic styles to one of a kind samples, and sadly there is one small rack of clothing. The discounts are amazing though. Their super popular, classic styles were about 55%-60% off, but other styles ranged up to 90% off. I got two $1095 puffer jackets for $145 each.

Overall I’m giving this sale a 9/10. The two things that took away from the awesomeness of this sale were the line situation and the staff members. I hate to say this but the girls running the sale were just downright rude. They were totally unfriendly and I was extremely disappointed when they told me that they would hold a coat for me and I went back to get it only to be told that there were no holds. Other than those two issues though, I have no complaints. The pricing was amazing and the selection was just as good.
