Cocktail Dresses & Evening Gowns for Under $200 at the Carmen Marc Valvo Sample Sale

Since my engagement dress came from Carmen Marc Valvo, I was excited to see that the brand was hosting a sample sale. Considering the fact that I got married way before I knew about the existence of sample sales, I spent a hefty $1,200 on the dress. At the sample sale all cocktail dresses retailed for $100, and all evening gowns sold for $200. Most styles came in numerous sizes ranging from 0-10. Items were from past collections and were mixed between stock and sample.

Update Your Work Wardrobe at the Theory Sample Sale for Women

Theory Sample Sale

By Cristina Martin

The Theory sample sale had some really great pieces. Theory is well known for their stylish power suits and minimalist approach to professional attire. You can find both professional and casual pieces at the Theory sample sale. Their accessories were on point as well! You can choose from a wide variety of handbags, scarves, hats, and belts. However, their shoe selection was rather limited.

Now prices… We rated the Theory sample sale a 7 out of 10, because all although their selection was excellent, the prices were still a little high. You had to sift through the clothing to get a really good deal. For example, these suede pants were originally $1,195 and were on sale for $99. Now that’s a gem! On the other hand, a leather jacket was $445 and on sale for $399. We are keeping our fingers crossed for further price reductions!

Comfort Clothes to Die for at the Lemon Collections Sample Sale in NY

We loved this sale so much we gave it a 9.5 stars out of 10!

This sample sale offered a ton of fuzzy socks, scarves, slippers, leg warmers and leggings all for under $30. The staff was nice, the location clean. The items on sale  were so cozy, I just wanted to stay in the fuzz forever. Accessories were all over the tables and there were plenty of them – most at a 3 for $25 deal. There were 2 sweater and robe racks along with racks – some were cashmere – and they all were selling for $15. Pillows were $10, blankets $30 and there were 4 $1 bins at the end.

5 Things To Know About Sample Sale Shopping in March

ShopDrop tips for sample sale shopping in NY

As sample sale season approaches, weekly # of sales can reach as many as 100 sample sales! That being said, you should be smart about the ones you hit up. Below we are collecting the best tips from us and our users to make sure you emerge from the season with the best finds possible!

1. Check and plan often

We update ShopDrop app with over 10 new sales every single day! There will be weeks between March & May with over 100 sales per week.
Make sure to mark the ones that look interesting to you and to work them into your busy schedule.

2. Try to weed the sales out before going

Not every sample sale is created equal. Some sample sales call themselves sample sales, when in truth most items barely reach 50% off retail. Or perhaps you have your own inner rules: don’t spend more than $50 on a top, etc… The good news is, you can find out about the kind of merchandise and prices the sale carries by following the right accounts and blogs. We definitely keep our Instagram Stories & blogs updates with reviews and previews. There are a number of accounts that do that as well. Make sure to review & request sales you are interested in so that you don’t end up wasting your time.

3. If you like the merchandise, but it seems expensive, go back on the last day of the sale

Many sample sales will drop prices or will be more willing to negotiate on the last day of the sale. We’ve encountered situations where prices were literally half off what they were on the first day at the end of the sale. If you saw items you liked but were willing to risk losing (because face it, someone might snag the goods before you) – go back on the last day! There is a good chance you’ll get a major discount.

4. Double check hours

We wish this wasn’t the case but sample sale hours are RANDOM! Some of them open only during the afternoon, and some tend to close early if they sold out of merchandise. Make sure to double check the day and hours before hitting up the sale. That will help with your time management!

5. Look out for extra deals

We negotiate with brands for specials on your behalf (i.e. early access, additional discounts, etc…) That way you can compound your savings. The partnerships we currently have going on are: early access to Sachin & Babi, an additional 15% off at Parker NY, additional 5% off at John Paul Ataker, early access to Clever Alice etc and more!

And a bonus tip from our followers:

Make sure you are dressed in a way that makes trying on clothes with no changing rooms and 1 mirror easy!

$30 and $50 Boots at the Ivy Kirzhner Sample Sale

We were so pleasantly surprised at the Ivy Kirzhner sample sale, where all shoes were $30 and all boots $50. This is a brand that sells them for oner $600 typically. At the last sample sale, shoes were still in the $200 range. Here’s what you need to know: all the $30 $50 items are samples, which means they are in size 7. If you are that size – say hello to paradise. If you are a different size, then they have regular collection items that are still over 80% off. All prices and photos below. The Cutest Cashmere Slippers at the Snowman Sample Sale

Snowman sample sale

Clothingline combined the Cashmere and Snowman sample sales into one and we checked them out on the first day! While items were still pricey – with cashmere sweaters between $60 and $90, the selection of sizes was quite broad (XS-L) and so was the variety. The Snowman coats were all 50% off retail prices, which left them in the $240-$260 range. We are crossing our fingers for markdowns as the sale progresses.
If you want to hit it up, you have till Thursday. Photos with prices below. Enjoy!

All Under $50 at the Karen Miller Sample Sale

The Karen Miller brand is having it’s second sample sale this year at Clothingline. While I’m not the biggest fan of the brand, I have to admit that prices are quite low. Everything except for the leather items is under $50. There are lots of options for larger sizes (6-12) in clothes and quite a few shoe options as well. The sample sale has clothes for women only – and includes dresses, jackets, tops, cardigans, skirts and pants. A lot of the merchandise is dirty or damaged, so make sure to double check the items before checking out. If you like the British brand, then you still have two days to shop at the sale.
