A Theory Regarding the Theory Sale—It’s Meh

This Theory sale was so average that it’s hard for me to find a word to describe it. When I heard that Theory was offering items up to 70% off I was intrigued, but when I got to the sale I thought the prices were too high and the items too boring for me to justify it. Items available at the sale were shirts, sweaters, dresses, jackets (both men’s and women’s), scarves, and hats (and a few pairs of shoes).

Although this sale was kind of underwhelming, I will give props to how well-organized it was. With a wide variety of styles and sizes, everything was hung up neatly on hangers. Men’s on one side, women’s on the other. (260, take note) One thing that I really liked about the room (OCD, much?) was that items and racks were separated by category and price (ie women’s sweaters for $109, men’s outerwear for $299)— this made everything easy to navigate.

The pieces were mostly solid colors and veered on the side of dressy(ish)— in short, if you’re going on an interview, hit this up.

While the prices were notably discounted, for a sample sale they weren’t that great.

I give this sale a 6/10. The pieces were nice but pretty expensive. This sale would definitely appeal to someone who is a big Theory fan. If you don’t have any particular fondness for the brand, though, it’s just slightly above “okay”.

The AV Max Sale Lived Up to Max-imum Expectations

By: Eve Orbach

This AV Max sale was great!! There was a large selection and variety of jewelry at low prices. Prices ranged from $5-$25, while full-priced items on the website go for about $20—$70. Featured were rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings in both gold and silver finishes. Because of the price point, the jewelry is made with mixed metals instead of 100% gold or silver. The pieces ranged from super minimalist everyday styles to more funky fashion jewelry.

The sale was very easy to shop in. Most tables were organized by price and item (ie rings for $5, hoops for $5, etc). The sale venue was small but cozy, and it’s the same place where they keep their materials. This turned out to be a cool feature because they had people crafting the jewelry while we were shopping. The staff working the sale were really friendly and kind. There was Christmas music playing, everyone was chatting with each other and to top it all off there were free mimosas offered!

I give this sale a 10/10. If you’re looking for fun fashion jewelry at low prices then this is the sale for you. Also, because we’re in the holiday season, it’s worth mentioning that you will definitely get some people checked off of your gift list!

PSA: this jewelry would make adorable stocking stuffers.

The Dion Lee Sample Sale was a fun Shopping Spree!

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: Dion Lee’s sample sale set up was very neat and organized and each rack was categorized by color. There were only a few customers shopping which made the experience quiet and enjoyable. All of the clothing was amazing quality and in great shape; everything looked brand new! There was one small fitting room, and one large mirror in the middle of the store. The girls working there were very sweet and helpful. They kept marking down the items every so often which was a plus! They had a section for shoes and accessories in the corner, which was organized and laid out very neatly.

Merchandise/pricing: The merchandise’s prices were still pretty high, but the items were fabulous quality and stunning (might be worth it!) Each item had its own price- there was no set price depending on the categories. There were a lot of stunning silk lace long dresses and those were around $200-300. The girls working there said that those gowns retail for around $600. All of their bathing suits were $60-$70, shoes were $100-$150, and earrings were $100-$250. They had a great variety of shoes: bootie heels, sandals, flip flops, and dressy heels. They had a limited selection of shoe sizes however; there were ALL only sizes 39 and 40. They also only had a few pairs of earrings left and all of them were silver. There were A few bathing suits left, and frankly, none looked worth their prices.

Rating: 7.5/10. Despite the fact that the prices were still sort of high, the items were excellent quality and all STUNNING pieces. It is only worth it to go if you are nearby.

The Veronica Beard Sample Sale is a Total Sh*t Show

By: Jacqueline Munro

After waiting on line for almost two hours outside of the Veronica Beard sample sale today, and then throwing elbows inside for another hour, I am exhausted. I’m gonna save you some reading here and start off with this: WAIT FOR MARKDOWNS.

At this sale, there are tons of gorgeous blazers, suits, skirts, sweaters, dresses, shoes, and accessories. There were some really cute sets as well, but where am I going to wear a matching skirt/blazer set? My mom got two suits and a blazer, but she’s a sucker for Veronica Beard so she wasn’t bothered by the fact that the production pieces were only 70% off retail. In my opinion, that’s just too pricey for this brand. If prices were 80%-90% off, then we’d be talking. But no, and on top of that, the people in this sale were absolutely maddening. They were so rude and aggressive. I’ve never seen people go so crazy over 70% off in my entire life. Sample prices ran from $20-$250 which is what I would have hoped for the production pieces.

Overall, I rated this sale a 5/10. If prices were better and the place wasn’t such a circus I would’ve given it a higher rating. But honestly, I wasn’t expecting anything better from 260. So, ladies, I cannot stress this enough, control yourselves and WAIT. FOR. MARKDOWNS.

The Bonpoint Sample Sale is NOT on Point

By: Jacqueline Munro

After attending the Bonpoint sample sale today I left feeling amazed… Amazed by the fact that people are actually willing to pay that much money for baby clothes that will fit for about a month during which they will be covered in poop, pee, and barf! But hey, who doesn’t want to dress their infant in a multi-hundred dollar onesie………..

For such expensive baby/children’s clothes, I would like so see discounts better than 60% off. With that said though, there was an insane amount of inventory including a lot of cute options for boys and girls ranging from one month to 10 years old! There were cashmere leggings with matching sweaters, adorable little collared shirts, lined winter onesies, shearling vests, winter coats, and plenty of other items. You’re going to have to do some work sorting through everything though because all of the clothes are just “folded” in piles on the tables. Pretty much nothing is hung up, which makes sense given that the clothes are so small, but unfortunately it creates a colossal mess. Oh and don’t go if you need to ask someone’s opinion before purchasing because if they see you making a facetime call or taking photos you will be asked to leave. Trust me, they’ll actually do it. I know from experience.

Overall I rated this sale a 5/10. Unless you’ve got a fat wallet and a lot of cash to drop on baby clothes, sit this one out.

I’m saying “Boooo” to the Jimmy Choo Sample Sale

By: Jacqueline Munro

Overall I was not impressed by the Jimmy Choo sample sale. The sale is taking place at 123 West 18th St. in the Metropolitan Pavilion. If you’re having trouble finding it, just look for the insanely long line of people standing on the sidewalk.

At this sale there were TONS of shoes; I was shocked by the amount of merchandise when I walked in. All of the shoes were organized by size. Each size ranging from 34.5-41 had its own section of racks/tables that were overflowing with shoes. The prices for women started at $200 and went up to $375 plus an additional $200 for any exotics. There were lots of pumps and wedges but sadly there were not as many boots/booties, sneakers, or flats. The sneaker selection that they did have was pretty underwhelming and the flats weren’t great either. There were a few hot pairs of booties, though! Additionally, there were lots of sandals, which is quite unfortunate given that were almost in the month of November. But for all of you snow birds out there, this sale is the perfect place to start prepping your s-winter shoe-drobe. In addition to all of the shoes, there was also a small selection of bags ranging from clutches to large totes, and they’re selling fast! The mens section was decent and all shoes were $150 which is great! How come women’s shoes couldn’t be priced like that!?

Overall I rated this sale a 6.5/10. Although there were approximately a gazillion pairs of shoes, a lot of them were outdated and just down-right ugly. The pricing was okay, but not amazing and the line was absurdly long. I’d say go if you’re a huge Jimmy Choo fan, but don’t expect to be wow-ed by anything.

You can Stop Holding your Breath, the Alexander Wang Sample Sale is Back!

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Alexander Wang sample sale is back and so far it has been *Drumroll Please* INSANE!!!! We were super excited to hear that this sale was open to the public after years of being invite-only, but now all we feel is anxiety!

If you ever make it into this sample sale (the line was 500 people deep at one point) the main issue you’ll come across is the resellers. 260, how on Earth could you let this happen!? We got pictures of hoarders with mile-high piles of bags, clothes, and shoeboxes, and they were grabbing things off the racks so quickly that not even the employees could keep up with them. So even though 260 started off with a ton of back stock, we’re not sure it’ll last until Sunday. Aside from the resellers, the place was a completely disorganized mess. Shoe boxes were everywhere and the staff could barely navigate their way through the clutter. The prices were decent and the merchandise seemed like it was good if you got there first thing this morning, but apparently, all of the bags are already gone, and they are out of lots of sizes in certain shoes.

Overall we rated this sale a 6/10. 260, you really need to get your sh*t together on this one, we had really high hopes. This sale is not for the faint of heart, so unless you’re ready to wait online for three hours, and throw some elbows once you get inside, avoid this sale at all costs.

The 260 Multi Brand Sale is a hit or miss

By: Jacqueline Munro

260 Sample Sale is currently hosting a multi-brand sale including Derek Lam, Cushnie, and Pierre Hardy at its 151 Wooster location. I love multi-brand sales because if you don’t luck out with one of the brands, there are always others that might offer something you like!

At this sample sale, the Derek Lam selection was by far the largest. The Derek Lam (collection and 10 Crosby) merchandise took up most of the first floor. The discounts were mediocre, to be honest, but the selection was fabulous. The pants ($95 for 10 Crosby and $225 for collection) section was superb and there were a bunch of amazing coats ($250 for 10 Crosby and $300-$400 for Collection) and blouses ($85) as well. Sweaters were $150 which seemed a bit outrageous to me, but there were a lot of cute ones. As for Cushnie, the selection was very small. There were almost no gowns and the activewear selection was more plentiful than the dress selection. The discounts for Cushnie ranged from 70%-80% off and the sample pieces were as marked. The Pierre Hardy selection was downstairs and it was pretty big– in addition to the women’s selection, there were a lot of options for men and a few for children too! There were tons of flats and heels but not as big of a sneaker or boot selection. And as if the small boot selection wasn’t sad enough, all of the sizes were on the larger end. So if you have small feet you’re out of luck. The boots were $250, “dress” shoes were $180, and sneakers were $150. These prices seemed a bit steep to me but at least they had good stuff.

Overall I rated this sale a 6/10. It was not very well organized and the prices were a bit steep, but if you’re willing to splurge on some cute pants for the fall, it might be worth checking out.

The Ba&sh Sample Sale Left me with Mixed Emotions

By: Jacqueline Munro

The Ba&sh sample sale was unbelievably hectic, which is no surprise given that it is taking place at 260 sample sale. I’m honestly having a hard time deciding whether or not I loved this sale, here’s why:

For starters, did I mention that I hate 260? For one of their first sample sales I was hoping that  Ba&sh would choose a KILLER host like, I don’t know, us maybe?  But seriously, we all know that 260 prices suck which is such a drag because they had amazing merchandise at this sale. There were so many cute dresses, sweaters, coats, and skirts. The skirts and dresses varied in length and style, and the outerwear ranged from shearling to denim. There were also some super stylish wide leg corduroys, but they were literally designed for women with legs like flag poles. Aside from the clothing there was a small selection of shoes and an even smaller selection of accessories.

So how am I supposed to determine whether or not I loved this sale? I shouldn’t be okay with settling for mediocre prices just because the merchandise rocks. But hey, I guess that’s the name of the 260 game. I decided to give this sale a 7/10 because I did walk away with some great (pricey) finds. But if you’re hoping to walk away feeling victorious I’d get over there quickly because the first day was PACKED! Good luck shoppers. Stay safe out there it’s a vicious crowd.

By: Ashley Randall
