All things random at the MoMa Design Sale

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Moma sample sale had tables in the middle of the room, filled with tons of items. While the room was spacious and organized, this sale was slightly wack. All of the merchandise was so random: from pads of paper to dishes to watches, this sale was very interesting. There were staff members behind each of the tables, and they explained what everything was. All of the items were neatly laid out and displayed, and it was quite easy to find what you are looking for.

Merchandise/ pricing: Most of the merchandise was 60% off, besides for jewelry and watches; Jewelry and watches were 50% off. There were tons in stock of everything, from plates to casual bags. The prices in this sale were great, but retail prices were also not so high. This sale is not worth the trip, unless you need a new clock or notebook. Most of the items were not considered “cute-” the plates were bright red with weird apples on them.

Rate: 4.5/10 Eh merchandise, low prices (but retail prices are not too high either), sweet staff, not worthwhile to attend.

Multi-brands sale: A BAG LOVERS HEAVEN

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Multi-brands sample sale was very organized, being that it was in such a small room. This sale was comprised of 8 great brands. The room was set up with bags everywhere, but the tables were then categorized by brand. It was quite easy to find the bag you want, and there were a few sales associates there helping the customers as well. In the table in the middle of the room, there were a bunch of clutches for events and weddings. There was such gorgeous stuff! Along the walls were big handbags, and they all came in multiple colors. This sale was worthwhile to go to.

Merchandise/pricing: This sale had amazing deals. Most of the bags were $25, and wallets were around $10. The bags still had tags on them, and were being sold in retail for around $300. All of the bags came in tons of colors and sizes; there was a ton of everything, and even more in the back. This sale laid out all of their wallets and bags very nicely, and it was so easy to find what you wanted. It is worthwhile to attend this sale- you will defiantly walk out with a new gorgeous bag!

Rate: 6/10 Great deals, gorgeous bags.

Barely Impressive Billy Reid

This Billy Reid sample sale features lots of men’s clothing including button down shirts, pants, jackets, ties, and more. There is also a small women’s section that has dresses, skirts, and tops. Most of the items are along the $60–$100 price range. There’s lots of under $100 deals, but at a sample sale paying $79 for a sweatshirt or $99 for a skirt is not gonna happen (unless the designer is more high-end).

Men— if you’re in the market for new clothes for the workplace, it’s probably worth it to check this one out eventually. Wait until the last day for markdowns to get the best bang for your buck.

The best deals include ties for $29 and knits for $39.

All items are neatly hung on hangers and separated by item type and size. The staff was too busy hanging out with each other to be helpful. (Sorry not sorry)

There is a buy more, save more deal with some of the pieces. 4 woven shirts cost $225 and purchases of $600+ get you 20% off.

I give this sale a 3/10 for unimpressive prices. The merchandise was solid but it didn’t really blow me away. There are a LOT of items at this one, so maybe try your luck to find a diamond in the rough.

What: Billy Reid sample sale.                                                                                                                                             When: January 28–February 2, 2020.                                                                                                                                   Where: 151 Wooster Street

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Bonobos sample sale was a true hit. The racks were each categorized by the item. There were multiple racks filled with dress shirts, casual pants, jackets, and more. The space was very organized and it was easy to find exactly what you wish to purchase. The righthand side of the room was filled with endless accessories. From belts to scarves, the sale truly had it all. All of the clothing was also hung nicely and the staff was also very sweet.

Pricing/ merchandise: The sale’s pricing went as follows: knit tops $20, dress shirts $39, casual shirts $39, sweaters $45, knit bottoms $25, shorts $35, casual pants $45, denim $45, dress pants $59, blazers $99, windbreakers $59, leather bomber $225, swim $35, ties $25, socks $5, scarves $45, hats $25, belts $30, and underwear $12. The sale had a plethora of merchandise, in multiple colors as well. However, there was only one rack of both shorts and swim. The swim prints ranged in various blue colored patterns. There were also a bunch of great coats, from casual blazers to fancy down jackets.

Going (sun)ham for the Sunham Sale

By: Eve Orbach

Home goods brand Sunham’s sale is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the market for items to add extra sparkle to your home✨ Brands such as Vera Bradley, Ted Baker, Lacoste, and more are being featured. Prices range from $4–$40, so you are definitely bound to find some great deals. Most of the items fall under $20! Pillowcases, comforters, shams, blankets, pillows, robes, towels and more are featured.

The best deals of the sale include throw blankets for $15, bath robes for $18, and large decorative throw pillows for $6.

The one downside to the sale was that it is pretty disorganized and honestly kind of overwhelming to navigate. The sale kind of resembles a (slightly) less extreme version of what people’s homes in “Hoarders” look like.

There’s a sweet staff, tons of merchandise, and killer deals (seriously, you might get killed by the mess). I give this sale a 7/10

What: Sunham sale.                                                                                                                                                               Where: 308 Fifth Avenue, 3rd Floor, Manhattan.                                                                                                            When: January 20–24, 2020

The Anthom Sale was Plain 👎

Anthom is offering discounts of up to 80%, but unless if overpriced and underwhelming sales are your thing—skip this one. While the discounts originally seemed promising, a lot of the items are well over $150+. There are, however, a few good deals. This sale features clothes from Anthom, along with other brands that include dim sum, Yune Ho, and H of S.

All types of women’s clothing is being sold, along with accessories such as headbands, jewelry, and shoes. Everything is displayed neatly on hangers and separated by brand. The space is very minimalist chic and everyone working the sale is helpful.

The sizing definitely stays on the smaller size. Some of the items aren’t even sized at all (um, what?).

Ladies, please spare yourself the trip to this one. High priced items + bad sizing= one bad sale. I give this a 3/10 for the exactly 3 items I found reasonably priced.

YAY For YIGAL AZROUEL

By: Eve Orbach

According to Wikipedia (yes folks— we are THAT studious) “The Yigal Azrouel woman is effortlessly cool and confident…Yigal prides himself in the craftsmanship; he finely sources original fabrics, furs, and embellishments from all over the world to create the finest products for his customers.” At discounts of up to 90% off on gorgeous pieces! (including ones from the runway!) this sale is not one to miss. There are stunning feminine dresses, edgy leather jackets, and everything in between. Also included is a strong accessories section featuring many styles of belts, shoes, scarves, and bags.

The gowns are definitely the highlight of the sale; the patterns and designs are so intricate. Other highlights are their beautifully made winter coats and stylish heels.

There is a great range of sizes in all categories so extra points for that! Most sample sales are very lacking in this category, so hats off to the good people at Yigal Azrouel.

All items are hung up neatly on hangers and divided by attire and item type (standard, leather, runway, etc.) The staff was very helpful and helped some of my fellow shoppers find some real hidden gems.

Cash and credit card accepted. All sales are final.

What: Yigal Azrouel Sale.                                                                                                                                         When: January 13-16, 2020.                                                                                                                                       Where: 500 7th Avenue, 9th Floor (at the wework 37th entrance).

Wilt and Acrobat: small selection but great finds

By: Gabriella Rose

Set up: The Wilt and Acrobat sample sale was in a very small space, and there were only 3-4 racks total. One rack had a few cashmere sweaters, another had dresses and pants, and another had some shirts and coats. The majority of the items were low in stock – there were mostly one of each piece. Everything was very organized, and it was very easy to find whatever you are looking for. This sale was very hit or miss: it is possible one can find a few great items, but also possible to find simply nothing (due to the low quantity of items.)

Merchandise/ pricing: Each piece was individually marked. The cashmere sweaters were all $40, blouses around $60, dresses around $200, coats around $300, pants around $40, and shorts around $30. The prices were very good, due to the clothing’s amazing quality. There was mostly one of each item, which made it rather hard to shop. There were also no accessories, and no shoes. This sale was very small and everything was low in stock.

What: Wilt and Acrobat Sample Sale

When: Wed. Jan 8th- Fri, Jan 10th, 2020

Where: 27 East 37th, ground floor, Manhattan, NY

Rate: 8/10 Great finds, amazing prices, sweet staff.

BS Stands for Belgian Shoes

By: Eve Orbach

To put it lightly, the Belgian Shoes sale was overpriced and a waste of time. After an already disappointing discount of just 50%, you think the good people of Belgian Shoes would try a little harder to make their sale worth attending. But alas, I waited on line for almost an hour… that’s right folks… almost an hour. I do not understand what type of person could rationalize the decision to wait that amount of time for LOAFERS that were $200+, but the world is really filled with some interesting people.

Belgian Shoes is the type of company that sells “crests” on their website. As astutely pointed out by one of our loyal followers, the majority of people attending the sale “looked like attorneys”. The type of customer there is the person who loves to complain about how busy their work life is, and then continue to suffer an ungodly waiting period to buy shoes…for work. Seriously, everyone around me was wearing loafers. If everyone on line protested and just made their own sale of the shoes they were already wearing they would have had many better styles, price points, and a bigger stock. Inside there really wasn’t that many options to chose from, and the space was off putting and honestly smelled like an old age home.

This whole experience was pretty bizarre. I decided to give this sale a 1/10 because I knew that I was going to say some pretty harsh things in this review and giving them that extra 1 point made me feel better. Please, do yourself a favor and skip this one! Legit— still reeling from the whole experience. I feel like I was punked.
