Satisfy Your Shoe Crush at the Shoe Inn Sample Sale

Shoe-Inn Sample Sale Review by ShopDrop NYC

By: Lindsey Castin

The Shoe Inn sample sale was a true heaven for shoe lovers. There were hundreds of shoe options organized by size (ranging from size 5 to size 10). They had leather boots, sandals, heels, rain boots, and anything you could possibly be looking for! On top of that, they were all from well-known brands (Calvin Klein, Frye, Rebecca Minkoff, Michael Kors, Vince, etc). The shoes were all priced based on designer but were mostly in the $30-$80 range. All of the shoes (excluding boots) were buy one get one free. How could you not find something you love? 100% worth checking out!

Booties, Boots and Major Studs at the Modern Vice Sample Sale

By: Lindsey Castin

I inherited my designer shoe addiction from my mom, which made Modern Vice the perfect sample sale for me to go to. The sample sale had all different kinds of shoes: from boots (that sold at retail for $399 and were marked down to $69), to sandals (originally sold for $150 marked down to $39.99) to platforms – all covered in different colors of glitter. They also had a rack of coats which included silver and black leather jackets (made with a liner in them for women who ride motorcycles so they can look fabulous and not need to layer), bomber jackets as well as sweatshirts. These were all on pre sale and were priced at $360. My favorites were the white sandals with cheetah printed straps–perfect for a winter vacation getaway.

Sara Risigo who is a production consultant for Modern Vice showed us the back room which had a mini factory that they make the shoes in! Overall, such a cute venue as well as a great selection with a variety of sizes at unbeatable prices. The sale is still on until Friday, so you have a full day left to check it out! Pictures below!

Furry Heaven at the Belle Fare sample sale

Belle Fare new york sample sale review by ShopDrop

Although I grew up in freezing Russia, I never experienced the cold the way it is felt in New York. The ice somehow seeps in through layers of clothes and gives no rest. Therefore, I was absolutely delighted to be invited to the Belle Fare fur sample sale by Shelly & Renee. Besides for the fact that the selection was enormous – the entire showroom was lined with vests, capes, jackets and coats made of the softest cashmere and highest quality furs, everything at the sale was between $50 and $700. Despite my vegan diet, I couldn’t help but try on a number of items. My favorite was a double sided cashmere cape with a soft fur collar – going for $500 at the sample sale. All of the items were over 80% off retail prices.

If you are in the fashion district in the next two days, definitely head over for a delightful treat. And remember to tell Shelly you are from ShopDrop!

Altuzarra Sample Sale Insights By Bespoke Bargains

Altuzarra sample sale

The bi-annual Altuzzara sample sale has earned its place among my favorite sales due to its gorgeous pieces and generous discounts. The sale usually takes place in July and December, and I’d been scouring my inbox the past couple of weeks waiting for news on this months dates!

The sale opened today at 8:30 am and I arrived within the first hour. The sale space wasn’t crowded, but there is limited real estate at the coat check, and I waited about 15 minutes before heading in. The sale usually offers a mix of shoes, bags, current season RTW, and past season pieces. Before I get into some of the specific pieces/collections that were available, let me update you on pricing. Shoes top out at $500 for current season lace-up OTK faux pearl boots (retail $2,195!) Regular boots are $300 and heels/pumps are $250.

There are lots of bags and they are priced as follows. Exotics (only available in smaller sizes) and large bags are $400, medium sized bags are $300, and mini bags/clutches are $200. Bags received a significant price drop from the last sale! In July, large bags were $550 and small bags were $350. Today I spotted lots of Ghianda leather knot hobos for $400 (retail $2,295), Ghianda saddle bags for $300 (retail $2,195) and a handful of Ghianda mini saddle bags in python for $400 (retail $2,395.) I didn’t see any clutches, but there were a few mini saddle bags in Suede for $200. I’ve heard from people that visited the sale later this afternoon that those may have all sold out. FYI, handbags are mostly available in neutral colors like brown, black, and red.

Current collection has flat pricing by category. That’s a departure from previous sales where pieces were a straight 75% off retail. I very much prefer the current model. Coats are $500, dresses are $300 (I saw a few that retail for $2,995, like the Filippa dress!) and knits/tops are $150. Towards the back of the sale space, you’ll find past season pieces. Some are true samples, but many are production pieces that are brand new with tags. The most abundant size is 36. Tops/skirts/pants/knits are all just $50! Dresses are $125, blazers are $150 and outerwear—I didn’t see any—is $200. There is also a small selection of past season shoes for $50! The only exceptions to this
categorical pricing are a smattering of heavily embellished and /or beaded pieces that are price as marked.

There is a generously sized fitting room and lots of mirrors. Staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and, perhaps most importantly, super knowledgeable about the pieces. I will say that I didn’t think the selection of RTW was as strong today as it was in July, though the prices were phenomenal. Overall the sale is not quite as well stocked and there are fewer pieces to go around. I’d definitely still recommend a visit, particularly if you’ve had your eye on a handbag.

Carolina Herrera & Bottomless Closet

Carolina Herrera Bottomless Closet sample sale New York

The Carolina Herrera charity sample sale is a first of its kind for us at ShopDrop. It all started with a search for charities that speak to our hearts, and Bottomless Closet was definitely a winner. The organization takes women from homeless shelters and helps them with all the steps leading up to sustainable independence: writing resumes, getting appropriate clothes, landing job interviews. Whenever a client receives a job offer, the office rings bells in celebration. Needless to say, when BC reached out to us about Carolina Herrera, we couldn’t say no.

Carolina Herrera donated boxes upon boxes of runway samples, and we at ShopDrop were tasked with selling the inventory and sending a portion of the proceeds to Bottomless Closet. The boxes included 4 racks of the most elegant bridal gowns, evening gowns, separates, jackets and knits. The best part is that the pieces are exquisite and each one is a 1-of-a-kind. The worst part is that they are all REAL runway samples, which means that you have to be damn-skinny to fit into anything! If you are on the size 2 of the spectrum – then you have the privilege to buy Carolina Herrera dresses for over 80% off retail prices.

Pictures and prices are below. Enjoy!

Invitation Only – Jimmy Choo Sample Sale Review

By: Amanda Fontana

The Jimmy Choo invitation-only sample sale took place at the Met Pavillion two weeks ago. The enormous showroom was completely filled with a massive stock ranging from women’s shoes, boots, purses, scarves, sunglasses, belts, and even a selection of men’s shoes. Prices started at $50 and ranged to $450, a massive discount considering Jimmy Choo pieces often retail for upwards of $1,000.

Most accessories were one size, but the shoes had a massive range of sizing. There was also a variety in purse sizing as well, so smaller evening purses were much cheaper. Check out the photos to see a small range of all the products!

The sale was exclusive and required a pass to enter, and the line to get in went around the block– even for press. That said, the wait was definitely worth it; the sale was extraordinarily busy, but the products were all amazing and worth browsing through.

The event only lasted for two days– three, if you include VIP early access– so if you’re interested in attending private sales like this one, be sure to RSVP and follow the instructions on the app! They come and go very quickly, and invitations can be hard to come by if you wait too long. To stay up to date on more exclusive and invitation-only sample sales, be sure to download the ShopDrop App, follow us on Instagram, and add us on Snapchat @shopdropapp!

The 4 Types of Sample Sales

Jimmy_Choo_Clutches_2

By: Maura McNulty

Before I started working at ShopDrop back in June, my only introduction to sample sales was in the form of plot lines on sitcoms like How I Met Your Mother.  After my first sample sale, I quit my other internship to work with ShopDrop – I was officially a sample sale convert. Since then, I’ve been going to sample sales weekly, both for work and for pleasure. The further down the rabbit hole that I feel, the more I noticed the diversity of the underground phenomenon that is sample sales. So, in an effort to better capture the variability of sample sales, I present to you the four types of sample sales.

  1. The ConcertJimmy_Choo_PumpsI could never understand that fans posses when it came to meeting their favorite artists, at least until I went to I went to my first Alexander McQueen sale. 100 people and blistering temperatures could not interfere with me being able to hold a McQueen item, let alone being able to buy one at an affordable price. The energy inside is intense, the deals are crazy, and every purchasing decision feels like life or death. These sales are totally worth it if owning a pair of Jimmy Choos is on your to-do list, and unlike actual concerts, you get to bring home the thing you waited for. Just make sure to get a good night of rest before, and wear comfy shoes; you’re going to need it.

2. The Low-KeyDreams On Air Sample Sale

The rockstar-brands of the fashion world are not the only ones to hold sample sales, typically held in office spaces, sales from smaller brands are extremely beneficial to go to. The low-key sales I’ve gone to have yielded the most affordable prices, provide a great introduction to a new brand, and give you the opportunity to meet and converse with the people who make the clothes you buy.

3. The Multibrand
multibrand

Multibrand sales can be a mixed bag; typically, they’re held to get rid of a variety of items that didn’t sell as well as they would have hoped. In my experience, if there isn’t a clear theme with among the brands at the sale, or the prices are too high, it can feel a little chaotic and confusing. But, if you’re looking to browse, these sales have the most diverse range of items.

4. The Too Good to be True Sale

Alruzarra sample sale, sample sales ny, sample sales nyc

There is one qualification to fall under this category; amazing pieces, with prices that are shockingly low. Etienne Aigner and NYCharisma we’re perfect examples of the hidden gems that can be found at sample sales; both sales had a collection of hand-picked pieces, with astounding customer service and ridiculously low prices.

Harvey Faircloth Sample Sale Review

Harvey Faircloth

By Melissa Atkinson, The Reasonable Style

Fall weather is officially here and so is the Harvey Faircloth Sample Sale filled with Fall 2017 stock items. With a decent portion of the showroom dedicated to the Harvey Faircloth line, there are a variety of product categories to shop for this Fall season. Items include tops, pants, skirts, jackets and many more ranging in sizes 0-10 and small-large. Prices were between $45 and $850 which is a wide range and more than I personally anticipated price wise. The good news is that yesterday they were offering an additional 20% off already up to 60% off prices which was a great incentive. The sales reps did not confirm nor deny if the additional 20% off will be continuing on for the duration of the sale but I recommend heading over to the sale to try your luck.

Check out some of the items and its sale price (excluding the additional 20% off) that were available at the sale below.
