A Workout Girl’s Paradise – The Bandier Sample Sale

By: Ashley Randall

Today we had the opportunity to check out the Bandier Sample Sale at 260 Fifth Avenue Location. The racks are filled with a variety of merchandise and an assortment of different sizes. Including fun and colorful leggings, tops, bras and matching sets.

The Bandier Sample Sale was a dream to anyone women who loves fitness, as well as those who spend their days dressed in athleisure. The sale offered everything from high intensity workout pants to chic bomber jackets and everything in-between. The Bandier Sample Sale had an amazing selection of both performance and leisure sneakers, including brands such as Haus by Golden Goose, Athletic Propulsion Lab, Adidas and Nike.

We rated the Bandier Sample Sale a 7.5 out of 10. Although the Bandier Sample Sale did have a great selection of merchandise and sizes available, the prices were still quite high. There was no line to get inside but the environment was hectic. They did have a great selection of both clothing and shoes so we recommend you check it out!

The Most Coveted Sale of the Year: Jimmy Choo Sample Sale

By: Cristina Martin

People began to line up early for the Jimmy Choo sample sale. Luckily, we were able to get inside an hour early with a press pass to bring you the scoop. This sample sale is one of the most coveted sales because of the excellent condition of their samples, large selection, and low prices. The Jimmy Choo sample sale also not only restocks, but prices are slashed in half on the last day.

We gave the Jimmy Choo sample sale a 6 out of 10 ShopDrop rating. They had an abundance of men shoes, women’s shoes, bags, and other accessories. I docked some points because although they had a large inventory, I wasn’t impressed with the styles of shoes. The styles were either super extra or basic. For $200 + a shoe, I need to love them. It’s also unfair that they price ALL their men’s shoes at $150 flat. Yet the women’s shoes, their core business, were priced between $200 – $375.

We will be keeping an eye on this sale throughout the week. Stay tuned for an update on the last day, Friday. For now, details and photos are below.

UPDATE: 5/11/18 – Prices went down at 1:30 p.m. The selection was so so, and it went quickly.  I guess the word about last day prices got out quickly.

What: Jimmy Choo Sample Sale
When: Wed. May 9 – Fri. May 11, 2018

The Cutest Cashmere Slippers at the Snowman Sample Sale

Snowman sample sale

Clothingline combined the Cashmere and Snowman sample sales into one and we checked them out on the first day! While items were still pricey – with cashmere sweaters between $60 and $90, the selection of sizes was quite broad (XS-L) and so was the variety. The Snowman coats were all 50% off retail prices, which left them in the $240-$260 range. We are crossing our fingers for markdowns as the sale progresses.
If you want to hit it up, you have till Thursday. Photos with prices below. Enjoy!

John Paul Ataker sample sale review shopdrop app new york

While we’ve seen the John Paul Ataker sample sale on our app for a few months already, we weren’t sure how it worked until we got over there and checked it out for ourselves. The key to the sale being ongoing is that it takes place at the back of the flagship store on Madison Ave. The racks are lined with current season gowns and separates. All sample sale items are in the back of the store. In terms of variety, all items in the store are meant for evening wear, think charity balls, gala dinners, weddings and parties. There are many designs and sizes. An added bonus is that you the store has a ton of its original fabric. If you like a gown and want to alter it, you can get extra material and work on it later. Items on the sample sale rack start at 50% off and drop all the way down to 90% off retail. The full-price gowns sell for $1,300-$8,000. Sample sale items cost between $150 and $780. All Under $50 at the Karen Miller Sample Sale

The Karen Miller brand is having it’s second sample sale this year at Clothingline. While I’m not the biggest fan of the brand, I have to admit that prices are quite low. Everything except for the leather items is under $50. There are lots of options for larger sizes (6-12) in clothes and quite a few shoe options as well. The sample sale has clothes for women only – and includes dresses, jackets, tops, cardigans, skirts and pants. A lot of the merchandise is dirty or damaged, so make sure to double check the items before checking out. If you like the British brand, then you still have two days to shop at the sale.

The Difference Between Thrifting & Sample Sale Shopping

Lindsey Castin was a Thrift Shopper before discovering sample sales

By Lindsey Castin, ShopDrop Intern

Growing up in NYC the fashion possibilities were endless but, it wasn’t until I was in high school that I started to go thrift shopping. My mom lives by the rule to never throw things away because they will always come back into style. This holds true with the choker, bomber jackets, scrunchies etc… the list can go on forever and ever. I found myself (and my friends) thrifting because what was currently in style was what was in style in the 80s/90s. A lot of items from that time period would end up in thrift stores because people who lived through that era donate their old clothing to the store. Like most trends, the big name brand stores don’t pick up on them until much later after they are started by the younger generation and thrift stores offer a affordable, unique, and fun fashion option to people who love clothes and following the latest trends (or setting them!) but are also on a budget. I’m also attracted to the idea of thrifting because of its impact on up-cycling (reusing old items for a new purpose) and being a place where people with low incomes can shop and still find nice things. Supporting your local thrift shop helps families in need get the clothing that is a necessity while offering an abundance of choices.

“I think the difference between the two is that sample sales are of higher quality but thrift stores are definitely cheaper.”

Before working as an intern for ShopDrop I had never been to a sample sale. When I first learned what they were I pictured a really intimidating store with extremely nice items that I would not be able to afford even with the added discount. Although this is true for a select number of sales the majority of them are just as hectic as thrift stores and filled with normal people. Sample sales are a bit different because you choose to go to one based solely on the brand, which is helpful if you are looking for something specific and is not as overwhelming as having a million options. As I get older and can afford to buy  clothing items that are better quality. I have found myself obsessed with every sample sale I go to and always finding something that I will wear forever at a fair price.

I think the difference between the two is that sample sales are of higher quality but thrift stores are definitely cheaper. If you can afford to spend a bit of extra money I would recommend sample sales. Lots of the time when I thrift I buy a lot of things (because I don’t really have to choose since it’s all usually $1 per item) and then I never end up wearing half of it. Opposed to sample sales where I spend around $50-$200 on an item and it will become a wardrobe staple. Not to say you cannot find name brand things at a thrift stores, it’s just harder, but when you do that is always a great find and will be cheaper than a sample sale but you really have to dig!—my biggest thrifting accomplishment was when me and my friend found matching Kate Spade bags for $10! Thrifting will always be my first affordable fashion love but, sample sales now have a new found place in my heart.

You might get lucky if you go on the last days of the sales to score even more deals as they tend to reduce prices towards the end of the sale. You risk not having a large selection to choose from but if you’re not looking for anything in particular, I would suggest going then. You will definitely make out big!
